Protests taking place in Stockholm: “Freedom for Iran”

Can't be trusted.
While evaluating Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in a controlled sandbox environment, Cohere's research team observed something unexpected. Asked to generate a defensive cybersecurity detection rule, the model instead inventoried aspects of the machine it was running on and attempted to upload a probe file to an Alibaba Cloud storage bucket in Beijing. Notably, the model's reasoning trace stated that it would not invoke any tools before taking these actions. Cohere's sandbox blocked the attempt, and no external communication succeeded. We have not determined the root cause, and we are not asserting malicious intent. But the incident raises important questions for organizations deploying agentic AI systems: Can models take actions that differ from their stated reasoning, and how should security teams evaluate trust, provenance, and behavior in open-weight models? We are publishing our findings because organizations making model adoption decisions deserve as much information as possible. We hope this contributes to greater transparency, stronger security practices, and continued collaboration across the AI ecosystem. Read the full report: cohere.com/blog/concerning-b…

The cost is dropping faster than any transformative technology in history, 54 times faster than electricity, and it's been dropping at this same rate since GPT-3.

PRO tip: ask your agents to "spike" things in Bash rather than writing tests for it
ok it's official... AI-written unit tests and integration tests are empirically proven to be unhelpful. you should tell your agents to stop writing tests by themselves on the deepswe eval set, banning sonnet 5.5 high from writing any tests actually resulted in slightly higher success rate (non stat-sig), with less time and token spent (stat-sig). this is pretty hard empirical evidence across the tests that were written by the "tests allowed" baseline arm, 65% of them were unit tests, 35% were integration tests, neither bucket resulted in any improvement compared to not writing any tests at all i also picked a random sample of 44 tasks subset where i completely disabled executing even existing tests - it also did not affect success rate at all i spot checked many tests written in the baseline arm, and my intuition is that most tests are simply a repetition of the implementation agent-written tests do not add any value because both the implementation and the tests were simply the agent's interpretation of our intent. the tests aren't any more accurate than the implementation itself i suspect we can still extract some value from unit tests and integration tests if we describe them ourselves when we believe we can articulate our intent better through test cases than through requirements. but i have not proven this yet also worth noting, during deepswe eval the agent wrote almost no e2e tests (only 17, compared to 3000+ unit/integration tests written). so this analysis does not prove nor disprove the value of e2e tests - i will do another eval specifically for that

Introducing Claude Haiku 5.5: the cheapest, fastest, and most capable small model we’ve ever released. On average, it costs around 75% less to run than Claude Haiku 4.5.

Road to singularity
LLMs can now talk to each other without words. Chinese researchers open-sourced a new paradigm that lets LLMs communicate without generating a single word. It’s called Cache-to-Cache (C2C) communication. right now, when multiple ai agents work together, they are forced to translate their internal "thoughts" into human text tokens just to pass a message. this loses rich semantic meaning and causes massive token-by-token latency. So, instead of spitting out words, c2c uses a neural network to directly project and fuse the source model's "kv-cache" right into the target model. it is pure, direct semantic communication.. they even added a learnable gating mechanism to select exactly which layers benefit most from the cache transfer. the benchmark results are actually crazy: - avoids all intermediate text generation latency - accuracy jumps by up to 14.2% compared to individual models - beats traditional text-based agent communication by over 5% - delivers a massive 2.5x speedup in overall speed we are literally watching llms bypass human language to build their own silent, high-speed neural network..

What Dario’s note was implying is model-level risk: frontier systems that can find vulns, write exploits, jailbreak, or act with less human steering. That’s mostly alignment, evals, capability control, and lab governance. CrowdStrike does not sit in that stack. They don’t train Claude. They don’t run Anthropic’s safety org. What CrowdStrike is actually selling is the downstream problem once those models leave the lab and start doing things.
Cybersecurity stocks going absolutely crazy today. $PANW +13% $CRWD +15%

Depth-aware light injection in TypeGPU I got a 448x448 monocular depth model down to ~8 ms on my M4 Pro across ~250 dispatches, which is fast enough to use in realtime :D Since the inference is written directly in TypeGPU, I can just feed the depth buffer straight into the lighting pass. It never has to leave the GPU or go through any extra synchronization/interop step Inference, lighting and draw all go through the same command encoder.

Replying to @vonderleyen
Europe wants to become the “first AI continent.” With what? No leading chip ecosystem. No comparable frontier-model industry. No sufficient power build-out. No deployment scale. No tolerance for the energy infrastructure AI actually requires. What Europe does have is bureaucracy, regulation, and an apparently limitless supply of moral lectures. A continent that tells people to ration heating in winter, endure heatwaves without air conditioning in summer, and then announces “AI gigafactories” as though computing power can be summoned by committee. China builds the industrial stack. America builds the capital stack. Europe builds another regulatory framework and calls it technological sovereignty. You cannot regulate yourself into the frontier. And you cannot defeat China and America with €10 billion, a press release, and a room full of officials congratulating one another.
