“To see life; to see the world; to eyewitness great events; to watch the faces of the poor and the gestures of the proud; to see strange things — machines, armies, multitudes, shadows in the jungle and on the moon; to see man’s work — his paintings, towers and discoveries; to see things thousands of miles away, things hidden behind walls and within rooms, things dangerous to come to; the women that men love and many children; to see and to take pleasure in seeing; to see and be amazed.” Original vision statement of LIFE Magazine in 1936 - WOW, the past is like an alien civilization.

Freshwater species face widespread human pressures, but where those pressures affect biodiversity has remained poorly understood. New Science research maps 45 threats across more than 21,000 freshwater species, revealing hotspots of impact and helping guide conservation and management efforts where they are most urgently needed. Scotland just delivered one of the most powerful clean-energy statements in modern history. On multiple occasions, the country’s wind turbines generated around 200% of national electricity demand, producing far more power than Scotland itself needed. It can be done!!! No time to wait. #ActOnClimate #renewables

Sound is essential to life in the ocean. Whales, dolphins, and many other marine species rely on sound to communicate, navigate, find food, and avoid danger. But the ocean is becoming increasingly noisy. Shipping traffic, seismic surveys for oil and gas, military sonar, and offshore development all add powerful human-made sounds that travel far underwater. These noises can mask communication, disrupt migration and feeding, cause stress, and in some cases lead to injury or strandings. Natural sounds like weather and earthquakes are part of ocean life. Human noise is not. As ocean use continues to grow, protecting quiet spaces and reducing harmful noise is critical to safeguarding marine ecosystems and ensuring a healthy ocean for all. #Media: Canada is planning a historic expansion of electricity production — yet the planning tools guiding public policy discussions do not fully reflect reliability, capacity, and long-term system value. Today, we released The True Value of Hydropower report, which finds that when electricity systems are evaluated on a system-wide and long-term basis, hydropower emerges as one of the most cost-effective and reliable clean energy resources available.
