Just to double check your position @TimSweeneyEpic
You are currently adjusting the EULA to give creators who use UE the ability to give permission to allow their games to be trained off. Thus permission being important factor in being trained on.
But later you say that according to the court cases you’ve looked at, it is okay to train off anything as long as the output is different?
Why change the EULA to be optional when training is allowed anyways?
Replying to @Kotaku
This conflates a number of different things. Here is a breakdown of the separate components of what is happening -
- Does Epic let people use Fortnite IP without permission or compensation? No.
- Does Epic restrict AI training on outputs of Unreal Engine and MetaHuman? Yes currently but we are working to remove this restriction from EULA terms, though each game using these tools is released under terms of the developers’ choosing which can allow or restrict AI training.
- Do we allow training on content developed by others which we host in places such as Fab? This is up to each developer with the NoAI tag.
- What does the law say on the copyright issues associated with training on content? The Anthropic court ruling found they were liable for copyright infringement when torrenting pirated content (as the article quotes me on), but they found that the training itself was fair use. Other courts have found that whether particular content produced by AI was infringing dependent on its similarity to the copyrighted work.

Real-time ragdoll physics in UEFN 🤯
Real-time ragdoll physics on your own skin.
Not an animation. Not a pose.
Every limb simulated individually, colliding with everything in the map.
- Not server heavy
- Super smooth in multiplayer
- Collides against everything
- Impact per limb, readable in Verse
- Launch, fall or ragdoll on damage
No experimental features. Everything live and publishable today.
Never been done in UEFN before. Fortnite has no ragdoll system, so every part of this is a workaround. Super proud of this one😁

Introducing... VerseBoy! 🎮
A highly accurate Game Boy emulator written in UE6's future programming language, Verse. It runs both standalone (using Python as the display) and right inside Fortnite using #UEFN! 🧵

IM LITERALLY CRYING 🥹
Almost a year ago when Ballistic got removed, I was going through the roughest time of my life.
Not only because a mode I geninuly enjoyed got removed but a Project I was working on got cancelled and a Family Member got really sick.
8 Months later the Family Member recovered and the project I put Hearth and Soul in reached Homebar
THANKS SO MUCH ♥️
