A forlorn snowflake falls through the hamamelis-scented mist, followed by the evening. The wave of curiosity ebbs away. While the heart still clings to that elated feeling, sacred quietly turns to scared, again. Perhaps this is the preface of scarred, I wonder. I stare into the haze with eyes as hollow as theatrical stars. They know how to hide the regurgitating horror. Only not from myself. We all have our jabberwokies. Yours set my roof on fire. 紅楓似火燃幽徑
碧澗如絲環洞天
Red maples burn like living fire
along the quiet, winding way;
their scarlet leaves, a bright curiosity,
set autumn’s secluded path ablaze.
The emerald brook, soft as silk,
curves gently round the sacred cave;
a silken ribbon, myriad of colors, cool and chill,
guards the grotto’s misty nave.
Thus fire and water, red and green,
meet where the mortal world grows thin—
a path of flame leads inward, unseen,
to where the silk-bound heavens begin.

Mid-Journey——
curiosity begins
with an accusation:
the world is withholding something.
But a mystery makes no promise.
Silence owes us nothing.
Still, the traveler goes farther,
paying in miles,
in years,
in all that was left behind.
And then presents the bill
to a world
that never invited us.
旅の途上の好奇心は、一つの告発から始まります。世界は何かを隠している、という告発です。
しかし、謎は何も約束していません。沈黙にも、私たちに何かを返す義務などありません。
それでも旅人は、さらに遠くへ向かいます。道のりを重ね、歳月を費やし、後に残してきたものすべてを代償として支払いながら。
そして最後には、その代償の請求書を世界へ差し出すのです。
そもそも、旅人を一度も招待したことのない世界へ。
