#Eritrea’s Coveted Geopolitical Location and Irreplaceable Strategic Role in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa Research and Documentation Division Ministry of Foreign Affairs 29 October 2026 *"...Eritrea’s geopolitical significance and strategic role is deeply rooted in its geography, history, and the resilience of its people and statehood. From the earliest human migrations and the development of ancient civilizations to the emergence of the modern international system, the territory of present-day Eritrea has occupied an important position at the crossroads of Africa, the Middle East, and the wider world. Its strategic importance, already considerable in antiquity (part of this history is covered in the book ‘Periplus of the Erythraean Sea’), has assumed even greater significance in the modern era...". *"...For countries such as Eritrea, the central challenge is to safeguard sovereignty and national security while navigating an increasingly contested geopolitical environment. The ability to withstand external pressure and maintain an independent foreign policy is consequently a significant dimension of the country’s regional position". *"...Against this background, Eritrea’s self-reliant stance; independent foreign policy; resistance to alien/colonial occupation, sanctions and external pressures are important elements in understanding its contemporary geopolitical posture. The country’s political trajectory has been shaped by a determination to defend its sovereignty and preserve its independence under difficult regional and international circumstances". *"...Eritrea’s contribution to regional stability must therefore be assessed in terms of both its strategic position and its conduct. Its constructive engagement with neighboring countries, solidarity with countries and peoples facing complex nation building challenges, support for peaceful settlement of disputes, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and opposition to destabilizing external interference all contribute to a more secure regional environment". shabait.com/2026/10/29/eritr…

Sputnik Africa Interview with President Isaias Afwerki "Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity are foundational pillars of international law and the global order (past or future)... these are the basis of bilateral and multilateral ties... Partnership cannot conceivably be nurtured when these fundamentals are violated and infringed upon. SOVEREIGNITY IS THE NAME OF THE GAME!"

Potemkin Party minions and war mongers seem unduly exhilarated by the purchase of 12 Su-35 jet fighters from Russia. They believe, in the ominous words of their leaders, that this will indeed enhance the regime's capability for its "pre-emptive" war of aggression; oblivious to the legal and security quagmire that this will entail and the lessons from yesterday's history. The Potemkin Party has indulged in a massive weapons purchase spree for a long time now as the link below demonstrates. But massive re-armament will neither advance the PP's declared agenda of regional destabilization nor alleviate the dire sufferings of almost 70% of the Ethiopian population who live under abject poverty, classified as "multidimensionally poor" in accordance with standard economic metrics. The country is also suffering from mushrooming internal chaos and spiraling strife - the upheaval in Moyale is the latest in the string of entrenched inter-communal conflicts - which stem from a dysfunctional governance architecture. The Potemkin Party has got all its priorities wrong and, by all accounts, it will neither listen to the voices of reason nor retreat from the perilous path that it has chosen to tread. nitter.cf/AfriMEOSINT/status/211…

Even if #Ethiopia acquires 12 Su-35 4++ generation fighters and S-400 air-defense batteries, those weapons will neither resolve its internal conflicts nor give it a just cause for war against its neighbors. Everyone knows that invading other countries takes more than military hardware. #Eritrean-Ethiopian history, ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, and numerous other conflicts remind us that sophisticated weapons alone cannot guarantee victory. Courage, determination, and the conviction that one is defending and fighting for a just cause remain essential. What just cause does Abiy have for claiming #Eritrea’s and his other neighbors sovereign coastline? None. Ethiopia’s desire for access to the sea gives it no right to seize another country’s territory. Hubris cannot turn ambition into entitlement. Nor would these weapons make a confrontation with #Egypt, #SaudiArabia, #Somalia, #Sudan, or #Eritrea any less reckless. Ethiopia’s security and prosperity depend on peaceful relations with its neighbors. An arms package costing an estimated $4 billion would be a tragic misuse of resources while millions of Ethiopians need food. That money should feed families, rebuild communities, and give young people a future. #Ethiopians: your neighbors are not your enemies. This is not your war. Refuse to be drawn into @AbiyAhmedAli’s reckless adventure. Choose peace, dignity, and your children’s future. To the peace-loving people of #Oromia in particular: Abiy claims to act in your name. Make your voices heard: “Not in our name.” @KSAmofaEN @EgyptForeignMin @AlsisiOfficial @hawelti @EmbassyEritrea @HassanSMohamud @antonioguterres @ymahmoudali @Bankole_Adeoye @vonderleyen

The Potemkin Party continues to double down on its campaign of war and unremitting hostility against Eritrea by dwelling on revisionist historical narratives and the deplorable denigration of Eritrea's legitimate, decades-old, process of decolonization achieved through unparalleled and precious sacrifices. In this vein, one of PP's official mouthpieces - Fana Broadcasting Corporation - disparages, on its X account today, Eritrea's overall development policy and what it dubs as "stagnation of Assab". Furthermore, it laments the loss of "Ethiopia's Red Sea coastline", due, in its warped mind, "to conspiracy of external adversaries". These pitiful diatribes are symptomatic of the incurable war psychosis that has gripped the Potemkin Party for years now. Indeed, it is obvious that the PP will require massive reconfiguration in its mindset/soft-ware for reason and sanity to prevail. As it is, the antidote for its multi-layered malaise does not lie in the propagation of revisionist history; and/or in the flagrant violation of foundational pillars and principles of international law. The fact is: 1. A regime that is presiding over an ailing economy where 68.7% of the population are classified as "multidimensionally poor" (WB terminology) in spite of massive international assistance; and, 2. That is seething under interminable internal costly conflicts of its own making; is not in a position to pontificate to its neighbours about astute development policy or the fostering of good-neighborly ties anchored on mutual respect of each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. nitter.cf/hawelti/status/1970139…
The obsession/political frenzy of PP (aka Potemkin Party) officials to manufacture a non-existent regional crisis in pursuit of toxic and illicit "sovereign access to the sea" is perhaps at its zenith these days. The barrage of daily disinformation/provocation whose hallmarks are: i) stale revision and distortion of Eritrea's history (statements at Ceremony on "Promotion" of the regime's top military brass on Saturday); ii) willful intent to tamper with cardinal principles of international law, including the sanctity of colonial boundaries; and, iii) reckless saber-rattling; belie the misguided priorities of a regime bent on incubating regional crises to deflect attention from its multiple domestic challenges. The Horn of Africa Region does not need or deserve another bout of unnecessary and avoidable conflict and turmoil; afflicted as it is by a plethora of other debilitating problems. This is the unequivocal message that should be conveyed - in no uncertain terms - by all those who harbour sincere wishes for the welfare of the peoples of the region. nitter.cf/hawelti/status/1965070…

Ethiopia’s Pan-Africanist symbolic credentials cannot shield its successive regimes from scrutiny. How can a state invoke African unity while undermining the sovereignty and self-determination of other #African peoples? Haile Selassie helped found the #OAU in 1963. Yet in 1962, his government dismantled #Eritrea’s federal autonomy and annexed it. #Ethiopia’s record toward #Somalia raises further questions about territorial claims, intervention and regional hegemony. The OAU Charter enshrined sovereign equality, territorial integrity, non-interference and peaceful dispute settlement. These are not principles to invoke when convenient and discard when they constrain Ethiopia’s ambitions. #PanAfricanism is not a licence for African states to dominate other African peoples. It demands consistency: liberation for all, sovereignty for all, self-determination for all. Continental prestige means nothing when the principles proclaimed in Addis Ababa are denied to those whose freedom challenges state interests. #EritreaPrevails #FightAbiysAggression #RespectEritreasSovereignty

ETHIOPIA: NOBEL PEACE PRIZE RECIPIENT STIRS UP TROUBLE IN THE HORN OF AFRICA By Martin Zimmermann Since early October, reports of an escalating threat of war in the Horn of Africa have dominated the headlines, with Ethiopia at the center of the growing tensions. …There are three other landlocked countries in the world that maintain their own navies: Bolivia, Paraguay, and Laos. …The time has come for the UN, the AU, and other influential actors on the international stage to take an unequivocal stand and make it clear to the Ethiopian government that respecting Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is not optional but an obligation under international law. ETHIOPIA ― UN Secretary-General António Guterres has a little refresher for Ethiopia’s self-proclaimed 7th Emperor, Abiy Ahmed: the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea is not a royal decree, and the Red Sea is not an imperial inheritance. Perhaps someone should remind His Majesty that issuing grandiose rhetoric against Eritrea does not magically manufacture a coastline, and no amount of imperial ambition can rewrite international law. The throne may be imaginary, but the Law of the Sea is very real.
