After yesterday’s post about the Russell Brand trial, my inbox was flooded with people claiming this is all just a coordinated media conspiracy.
Well, I hope those same people actually read what came out of Southwark Crown Court today, because Brand took the witness stand and completely shredded his own defense.
Under cross-examination, he openly admitted to "inconsistencies" in his evidence, awkwardly asking the prosecution for forgiveness.
Even more damning, his own barrister asked him if a single friend or colleague from twenty-five years in showbusiness was willing to stand up in that courtroom and speak for his character.
His answer was no. Not a single person would touch him with a barge pole. Think about what that actually means. Decades surrounded by entourages, agents, and industry friends, and not one human being is willing to take an oath on his behalf.
Then look at how he described women to the jury today.
He admitted saving a complainant’s name in his phone labeled with a degrading slur and a sexual act. When asked if a woman expressed reluctance to an encounter, he casually dismissed her hesitation as "coquettishness and coyness."
This is not a misunderstood free-thinker being silenced for his politics. This is an arrogant narcissist who used celebrity status to treat women like disposable commodities, and is now watching his carefully rehearsed narrative crumble under basic legal scrutiny.
Stop falling for the staged internet guru act. The admissions coming out of his own mouth in that courtroom tell you everything you need to know.

Good qualities do not cancel out harmful behaviours! 🤷
People behave differently in different relationships 🤷
A person can be caring, kind, loving & a wonderful parent to their children, and also be a rapist 🤷
Those things can coexist.

#RussellBrand
This is what happened in Russell Brand’s rape and sexual assault trial today.
His wife, Laura Brand, took to the stand as a character witness to defend his character. She first confirmed that she is the daughter of golfer Bernard Gallacher and the sister of sports broadcaster Kirsty Gallacher.
She described Brand as caring, kind and a wonderful father to their three children.
Laura told the court they first dated in 2007, when she was 19 and Brand was 31, but split up because he struggled to be monogamous. She said she was aware of his promiscuity at the time and was left heartbroken when they separated.
The prosecution then questioned how much contact they had between their split in 2007 and getting back together in 2015, a period covering several of the allegations against Brand.
Laura said they “hung out” and remained close. However, prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC referred to a 2020 interview she gave on the Made By Mammas podcast, in which she reportedly said that when she saw Brand in 2014, she had “not seen him for years”.
Laura said they had stayed in contact during that period but did not meet in person until 2015. They got back together that year and married in 2017.
The court also heard statements from two of Brand’s ex-girlfriends, who spoke positively about aspects of his character but said he had cheated on them during their relationships.
Closing speeches from the prosecution and defence are expected tomorrow.

Just thought I'd nip over to check on the old lady over the road, and fair play to her, at 96, she had all the Halloween decorations up, cobwebs and insects in the windows and a skeleton on the couch.
There was no answer. I'll pop back next year.

DARK SHORE PRESS | NEW MUSIC RELEASE
WHAT WAS, STILL IS
Vanessa Macaulay
A song about the persistence of love, the passage of time, and the curious truth that what has ended may never entirely disappear.
Built around a hypnotic, recurring refrain, a haunting piano motif and Macaulay's distinctive contralto, What Was, Still Is explores the rhythms of the human heart, both physiological and emotional.
Spare in language, rich in possible meanings, the song allows its melody and repetition to carry what words alone cannot.
A new release from Vanessa Macaulay, and part of her forthcoming album, Samara.
