Great visit to Harvard today. Met tons of faculty and students and had so many interesting discussions. The grad students are just brimming with ideas and questions about economics and AI. The kids are alright!

For decades, the assumption behind American trade policy was that open markets made everyone better off. That consensus has collapsed, giving way to a contentious debate over tariffs, industrial policy, and what economic strength actually requires in this new environment. Is there such a thing as winning a trade war, and if so, what tradeoffs come with it? Is there a more optimistic path forward than the current rhetoric suggests?
On November 4, join @FT columnist @SoumayaKeynes, @UChicago Booth School of Business professor @BrentNeiman, and moderator @kylascan for a partner conversation with @BeckerFriedman on trade, economic strategy, and where the United States goes from here.

Such a great time connecting with friends and colleagues working in a field of economics that gets to the heart of human behaviour.
In the spirit of Milton Friedman, economic ideas ultimately have to confront the test of factual evidence. Today, field experiments take that challenge directly into the real world by testing how people actually behave, not simply how theory predicts they should.

I loved this conversation with @people, especially the question, “This will take time. What should parents be doing now?” That’s exactly the way we should be approaching this topic—as both urgent and ongoing.

Book of the Day 📘: Human Raised by Dr Dana Suskind
AI can answer questions, write essays and even tell stories. But it can't replace the power of human connection.
In Human Raised, neuroscientist Dr Dana Suskind explores why conversation, curiosity and real human interaction remain the foundation of how we learn, grow and thrive in an AI-driven world. @DrDanaSuskind
A fascinating new release for anyone interested in learning, behavioural science and the future of human connection. a.co/d/0eRaXAZm

Based on my joint research with José Scheinkman, Todd Munson, and Juliano Assunção, our new interactive @BeckerFriedman data studio brief explores how carbon pricing could reshape forest conservation and reforestation in the Brazilian Amazon. By combining economic modeling with spatial data, we examine how modest carbon payments can influence land-use decisions and contribute to climate change mitigation.
