Sheng Zhang examines the competing traditions shaping China’s Middle East policy, contrasting Maoist solidarity with Dengist economic priorities. Using Palestine and Iran, he explores Beijing’s political commitments, trade relationships, public opinion and diplomatic constraints. He argues that regional conflict is challenging China’s balancing strategy and strengthening Iran’s strategic importance. The discussion considers boycotts, Gulf investment, energy security, generational differences and strategic patience, asking what might push Beijing toward a clearer position as regional power shifts and tensions with Washington deepen.

Sunday, November 8: 25 years of Peace Vigils at Shannon Airport
A special peace vigil will be held at Shannon Airport on Sunday from 2pm until 3pm to mark 25 years of peaceful protests at Shannon Airport, and to commemorate the victims of war. Organised by @shannonwatch , the @PANAIreland and @WorldBeyondWar, the peace vigil will highlight Ireland and Shannon’s complicity in wars that have killed millions of people.
The peace gathering will acknowledge all those who work for peace and justice. Deceased peace activists who have stood at Shannon over the 25 years of protests will be remembered.

Imagine telling a child with complex needs that right before Christmas, their daily routine, their friends, and their vital support system are simply gone.
That is the heartbreaking reality facing 25 families in Monaghan as Little Wonders in Castleblayney faces closure on December 22nd due to HSE Ireland funding shortfalls.
This is not just an after school or weekend service, it is a lifeline. It is where these children thrive, learn independence, and stay grounded in a safe, structured routine. It is where exhausted parents get the essential respite they desperately need to keep their families running.
The HSE cannot pull funding from a service so essential to these children's development and well-being. Stripping away Little Wonders will directly disrupt their schooling, their lives, and their stability.
We need immediate political intervention. We call on the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth and Minister Emer Higgins to step in, do the right thing, and guarantee these parents that their children will have a place return to.
