On Sept 10, 69 United States Congress members and senators wrote to the United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an open letter calling for the release of imprisoned Palestinian pediatrician Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya who’s only crime was remaining in his hospital and taking care of his paediatric patients in Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza. He has remained in Israeli detention and captivity since he was taken on Dec 27 2024.
The effort was led by Congresswoman Maxine Dexter and Congressman Raul Ruiz who are both doctors. As doctors we must not remain silent in the face of grave injustices that face our patients and communities, and our colleagues like Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya.
Canadian politicians and doctors should follow suit and do the same.
The letter reads:
“Given the imminent threats to Dr. Abu Safiya’s life, we urge you to do everything in your power to ensure he receives the necessary medical care. We also urge you to advocate for an end to his seemingly indefinite detention during any upcoming engagements with the Israeli government. International human rights law clearly affords due process to all individuals accused of wrongdoing, and Dr. Abu Safiya is no exception.”
This week, the NCCM team spoke alongside community leaders and advocates at Parliament Hill, in light of Canada's recent decision to ban all Israeli settlement imports.
This is a major step forward after sustained efforts by multiple communities and their tireless advocacy. It is an urgent move given the record rate of settlement expansion, settler violence, and ethnic cleansing within Palestine today.
We will keep a very close eye on the way this policy is administered, and will continue to make sure that illegal Israeli settlement goods are not allowed on Canadian shelves.
There is much more to do. We look forward to seeing this latest ban put into full effect.

Palestine has exposed it: NATO countries are not US "allies".
Because an ally gets respect even in disagreement.
Those forced into obeyance, threatened with retaliation, from tariffs to invasion, are not allies: they are subalterns.
Time for emancipation.

South Africa has officially submitted a substantial dossier to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), detailing Israel’s continued non-compliance with legally binding provisional measures.
The submission, formally handed over on 25 August 2026, serves to assist an ICJ committee of judges tasked with monitoring the implementation of the court’s orders in Gaza.
According to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), Israel’s non-compliance directly undermines the protective functions of international justice.
Hence, the submission is a vital milestone in the struggle for global accountability. By formally documenting Israel’s refusal to adhere to the court’s binding provisional measures, Pretoria is doing far more than advocating for Palestinian survival.

Montreal City Council adopted a motion expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people, passing 54–6. The motion was amended by the governing Ensemble Montréal party and included recognition of Palestinian civilian suffering and calls for solidarity with Palestinians. Project Montréal had initially called for the city to denounce Israel’s policies as apartheid and genocide and suspend institutional ties with Israel.
The passage of a motion expressing solidarity with Palestinians is an important step. However, we are disappointed that the final motion falls short of the original demands. The new motion does not include concrete measures to address Montreal’s institutional relationships with Israel nor does it acknowledge the serious allegations of violations of international law, which were the core of the original motion.

Last night, an overwhelming majority of Montreal City Council voted in favour of the important motion in solidarity with the Palestinian people, introduced by Projet Montréal.
Despite our disappointment with some of the amendments, the adopted version clearly demonstrated Montreal’s position in the face of the atrocities perpetrated by the Israeli government.
This includes recognizing the ongoing investigation before the International Court of Justice into plausible genocide to calling on the federal government to impose further sanctions.
We worked with several city councillors and members of the Mayor’s Office, whose efforts helped ensure that the amended motion was adopted despite those who sought to defeat it entirely.
This adoption represents a significant step in support of the unifying principles of peace and respect for human rights.
We commend Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada, as well as elected officials from all parties who worked together to try to keep accountability and stand on the right side of history.

Big win today! Following an @LCPal_ca/@ICJPalestine submission & @SMohyeddin's reporting, Canada has denied entry to Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem @arieh_king. There are reasonable grounds to believe King is complicit in forcible transfer & persecution as crimes against humanity.🧵

What if, listening to this painful call, ALL those who say they care for Palestine, started to pay attention to:
-grocery/pharmaceuticals they buy
-insurance companies they use
-their banks
-their pension funds
-their work or research partners..
And chose an #ApartheidFree life
