In the 1930s, the Rural Electrification Act transformed America by proving that access to power was a prerequisite for modern life. Today, we are at a similar crossroads with the digital divide. In the latest episode of @ClickHereShow with Dina Temple-Raston on the @TheRecord_Media, our founder Mahesh Krishnaswamy joins an important conversation on why expanding broadband in rural America has been wicked hard — and insights on how we can bring a more comprehensive approach to empower our communities with true digital equity. It's not about the bits and bytes: it’s about the students, workers, and communities who are reclaiming their economic future. The episode explores how connectivity can shape individual careers, communities, and entire economic development of societies, from the perspective of a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, elected officials, and "recovering graphic designer", among others. It features the stories of Matthew Rantanen, Gigi Sohn, and their observations on how infrastructure is only as good as the lives it improves. Tune into the full episode Almost Heaven, No Reception, in rural America here or catch it on select NPR stations this week: play.prx.org/listen?uf=https…

Polish developer Kuba Gretzky wanted to prove that multi-factor authentication wasn’t foolproof. He succeeded — maybe too well. He speaks with the @ClickHereShow about what happens when a cybersecurity warning becomes the threat itself. therecord.media/evilginx-kub…

It was a pleasure speaking with @NPRDina about Qian Xuesen, the brilliant scientist who helped launch China’s missile and space programs. He might have stayed in the U.S. if McCarthy-era paranoia had not forced him out. Are we making the same mistake again?
Visa denials. Frozen grants. Whispers of disloyalty. Déjà vu, anyone? This week on @ClickHereShow: the saga of #QianXuesen — a #Chinese scientist who helped America win World War II… and was thanked by being shown the door. His exile isn’t just Cold War trivia. It’s a cautionary tale — one we seem determined to repeat. LISTEN: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

The state can silence media, but it can’t silence lived experience. A must-listen from @ClickHereShow 🎧👇

The #Kremlin has mastered controlling the message online. But now, tens of thousands of #Russian soldiers are coming home from #Ukraine with stories the state can’t erase. More from our interview with @KatStepanenko at the @TheStudyofWar. She explains why those veteran voices scare #VladimirPutin — and how far he’ll go to keep them quiet. Latest @ClickHereShow looks at how Russia’s push for a walled-off internet is shaping a model other strongmen may follow. Listen to learn more🎧👇
The #Kremlin claims it’s slowing mobile internet to keep #Ukrainian drones at bay. But that’s just the cover story. What’s really happening is #VladimirPutin’s long-imagined plan for a walled-off #Russian internet — a plan that’s fast becoming a model for strongmen around the world. This was an amazing experience speaking with @NPRDina on the impact that AI has on our planet and lives.
This week on @ClickHereShow's Mic Drop: The #AI boom is reshaping our world—and quietly guzzling power. #Sustainable code advocate Stuart Clark (@bigevilbeard) explains how the race to build smarter machines is heating up our #planet—and how we can code our way to a cleaner future. #environment #tech #cyber LISTEN: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

I enjoyed speaking with @NPRDina Temple-Raston about the dangers of surveillance pricing and my first-in-the-nation law to address it. We must do all we can to improve fairness and equity in a rapidly evolving digital economy, especially as the federal government @ftc retreats.
For years, companies have been collecting our data—tracking what we search, where we go, what we buy. But now, empowered by #AI and fewer government protections, that data is being used to do something unsettling: personalized prices. LISTEN: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas… @EmeritaTorresNY

I enjoyed talking to @NPRDina about surveillance pricing and the threat it poses to affordability and privacy. With @FTC standing on the sidelines, it’s great to see state after state introduce bills to protect fair pricing.

From internment camps to online surveillance, the Chinese government’s campaign against Uyghurs knows no bounds. I am grateful to @ClickHereShow for exposing how China’s digital surveillance and censorship are silencing my people. Please take the time to listen and share.
This week on @ClickHereShow, we begin ERASED — our four-part investigation into how #China is making #Uyghur culture disappear. Not in one sweeping motion… but piece by piece. A law here. An app there. A person. A website. In a modest classroom in northwestern China, children once sang and counted in the language of their grandparents — Uyghur. The walls were bright, the songs familiar. Then one day, the doors were locked. And the man who built that school, Abduweli Ayup (@AbduwelA), went from teacher… to enemy of the state. What began as a space for community and culture ended in silence. Don’t miss the latest episode of #ERASED
In part three of our series ERASED, #EkparAsat thought he was building a kind of #Uyghur Facebook—a digital town square for songs, stories, even jokes. But in #China, cultural preservation can look a lot like subversion. So the network disappeared. And so did its founder. LISTEN: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas… @RayhanAsat

Give a listen to this crucial story about Ekpar's forced disappearance. In China, the line between friends and enemies is blurred, so even if you comply with censorship and the red line to get by, there's no telling if you'll be labeled an enemy one day. That's the essence of authoritarian politics.

Check out this @ClickHereShow interview with @citizenlab senior researcher @PDXbek about our research into China's digital targeting of the Uyghur community 👇
In the second installment of our investigative series ERASED, we look at how #China’s efforts to silence its #Uyghur population have moved from the physical world to the digital one. No longer just QR codes on doorways, its surveillance efforts are now hidden in cloud services and software updates… and potentially coming to a smartphone near you.  LISTEN: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

TRON was supposed to be just another Ethereum knockoff — faster, cheaper, maybe a little flashier. But over time, it's become something else entirely: the go-to blockchain for illicit finance. More on this week's @ClickHereShow: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas… @JessMarinDavis
