🚀 Today's Edition of Watch Party Wednesday was a success!
We watched Episode 5 of The Founder’s Desk Series by @AfriBitcoinNews, featuring @OKIN_17 , founder of @EasySats_ & @BTCMiningNam, to explore how real-world problems can lead to 'meaningful' Bitcoin adoption.
Here are our key takeaways:
➜ Start with real problems: Practical payment challenges can introduce people to Bitcoin and show them its usefulness.
➜ Education drives adoption: People need to understand how to earn, store, and use Bitcoin, not just how to buy it.
➜ Adoption goes beyond holding: Merchant integration and real-world transactions are essential to making Bitcoin useful in everyday life.
➜ Build for local realities: Establishing Bitcoin infrastructure in Africa requires navigating local business conditions, equipment imports, costs, and operational challenges.
➜ Collaboration matters: No founder has all the answers. Combining technical expertise, business knowledge, funding, and local experience leads to stronger solutions.
As Okin's advice to African founders and builders puts it: “Collaborate.”
A big thank you to everyone who joined today's Watch Party, shared their perspectives, and contributed to the discussion. 🧡

🌍 PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: EasySats
📍 Location: Namibia 🇳🇦
About:
EasySats is a Bitcoin-only initiative that makes Bitcoin practical and accessible for everyday Namibians and Africans. It focuses on removing the usual barriers, exchanges, complex setups, and custodial risks, so people can easily understand, earn, obtain, and self-custody their sats.
EasySats also works hands-on with local businesses (restaurants, bars, and other service providers) to help them accept Lightning payments, while running education efforts, community events, and supporting the growth of a local Bitcoin circular economy.
Key Objectives:
1. Make Bitcoin acquisition simple and accessible: Enable people to obtain Bitcoin as easily as buying mobile airtime through voucher systems that can be redeemed via Lightning or on-chain, reducing reliance on traditional exchanges or bank accounts.
2. Enable businesses to accept Lightning payments: Help service providers and merchants integrate fast, low-cost Bitcoin payments so everyday transactions become seamless.
3. Promote education and self-custody: Teach Namibians how to earn, spend, and securely store their own sats through tutorials, events, and hands-on demonstrations so people learn by using Bitcoin rather than just hearing about it.
4. Support local businesses and circular economy growth: Give service providers tools and support to accept Bitcoin, creating more places where people can spend sats and strengthening Namibia’s Bitcoin economy.
5. Drive broader Bitcoin adoption: Build practical infrastructure, community events and real-world use cases that make Bitcoin useful in daily life across Namibia and contribute to wider African adoption.

🎙️ FROM THE FOUNDER’S DESK | EPISODE 5
Okin Nikolai Tjongarero discovered Bitcoin by trying to solve real problems.🇳🇦🇳🇦
From getting paid for his podcast and sending money across borders to building @EasySats_, helping merchants accept Bitcoin, organising practical Bitcoin experiences and exploring mining in Namibia through @BTCMiningNam.
Okin’s journey has been shaped by one question: How can Bitcoin become useful in everyday life?
In Episode 5, we sit down with @OKIN_17 to talk about:
→ His journey into Bitcoin.
→ Building @EasySats_ in Namibia.
→ Why people learn better by using Bitcoin.
→ Merchant adoption and real-world payments.
→ The realities of Bitcoin mining in Namibia.
→ Why African Bitcoin projects must be built around local realities.

📉 Growth is not always upwards!
Africa’s Bitcoin ecosystem now has 180 verified projects across 23 countries. That is down from 189 projects in Q3, a 4.8% decrease after our latest directory review.
But a smaller number does not necessarily mean less growth.🚨
As part of our regular review, 11 projects were removed because they were no longer active, no longer met our Bitcoin-only criteria, or had unresolved technical issues.
At the same time, 2 new verified projects were vetted and added, bringing the total to 180 projects.
The goal is not simply to keep adding projects to the map, it is to maintain an accurate, up-to-date directory of active Bitcoin-only initiatives across Africa.
If your project is already listed, claim it and keep your information up to date.
If you’re building Bitcoin in Africa and are not on the map yet, submit your project for review.
A special thank you to the builders, communities and organisations continuing to drive Bitcoin adoption across Africa. 🧡
Check out the Live African Bitcoin Directory, discover the builders, and share it with more builders across the continent.
