No-one listening with an open mind to @HJoyceGender of @SexMattersOrg, @Jebadoo2 of @MensNetwork1 & Dermot of @AllianceLGB could fail to conclude that Convers Practices Bill is a legal mess.
@andyburnham needs to consider whether he really wants what will also be a pol disaster
Today @AllianceLGB gave evidence on the draft Conversion Practices Bill.
It’s a bad bill that could see parents and clinicians criminalised for not affirming a child’s ’gender’.
Dermot Kehoe, our excellent Vice Chair, did a cracking job 👏🏼
This afternoon our Vice Chair, Dermot Kehoe, gave evidence at the Joint Committee on the draft Conversion Practices bill.
Parents should never feel afraid to tell their child “I don’t believe you’re born in the wrong body… but I do believe you’re my gay son and I support you in that”.

Excellent session in Westminster yesterday with @matildagosling presenting @SexMattersOrg research on harm that the Conversion Practices Bill would do, and talking with MPs and peers.
The bill will stop therapists feeling able to work with gender questioning children and young people, and there is no exception at all for parents.
@sueevansprotect said "I think this bill will have a devastating effect on parents who have children who are expressing ideas about their gender."

It has to be said that losing an application on the basis your submissions "don't add anything" to the insane ravings of the "Translucent" is a special kind of elegant insult only a High Court Judge could deliver.
looooooooool
Today, the High Court has refused Good Law Project permission to intervene in a legal challenge against trans inclusion at Hampstead Ponds.
We are pleased that the trans advocacy group TransLucent has been successful in its application to intervene.

Great to catch up with the team at @AllianceLGB Business Forum. An opportunity to connect with business leaders on the importance of having work place policies underpinned by equality law.
Both @Rebecca_SPaul and @RosieDuffield1 have been steadfast in their research and opposition to this monstrous bill. The Conversion Practices Bill is a Trojan horse for trans ideology. It could see parents being criminalised for not affirming their child’s gender (!) and would also sneakily bring concepts such as ‘non-binary’ onto the statute books while few people are looking.
Big thanks to Rebecca, Rosie, @tracygilbert72 and @joymorrissey who have called this out.
It’s ok to be gay!
This was from back in June on the Conversion Practices Bill. There was only a handful of us raising concerns.
I remember being staggered at the time how clear it was that the Minister hadn’t read or understood her own bill. And she didn’t even attempt to answer the question on whether a parent withholding consent for a child to participate in the puberty blocker trial could be at risk of 5 years in prison.
This Minister is now the Chair of the Women and Equalities Select Committee.

Young lesbians are one of the groups most likely to be harmed by the proposed Conversion Practices legislation. Our CEO, Kate Barker, is at the APPG to make sure that issue is front and centre of the discussion.
It’s great that we have MPs like @RosieDuffield1 who actually listen to lesbians, rather than just using us as cover for their other pet projects.

"Preet Kaur Gill, the MP for Edgbaston... “Nobody should ever be subjected to abuse because of their LGBT identity. The intentions of the bill – seeking to protect vulnerable people – are laudable. Yet there are serious concerns about the draft text that undermine what has become clear in recent research about the vulnerability of children exploring gender ideology.
As the Cass Review advised, parents and guardians must have freedom to take a cautious approach when navigating sensitive topics with their children. The evidence shows that devices such as chest-binders or puberty blockers can cause long-term bodily damage.
But by criminalising words that amount to ‘economic’ and ‘emotional pressure’, the bill could undermine this advice from Cass, and ensnare parents who simply want to properly examine the risks involved with early “transition”, and where appropriate, advise against rushing into the use of such serious interventions.
It would be wrong if a bill created to protect vulnerable people would overreach into potentially causing unnecessary censorship of important and loving conversations within families.”
"At the 2024 Labour conference, Tracy Gilbert, MP for Edinburgh North and Leith, said that introducing a ban risked “potential pitfalls” and many parliamentarians were unaware of the risks"

We’re pleased to be invited to give oral evidence to the joint committee scrutinising the draft Conversion Practices bill.
It’s vital that they hear from the many LGB people opposed to this bill and understand the harms it could cause to LGB teens.
