Letter doesn’t say it, but state leaders expanded Medi-Cal last year to provide health insurance to undocumented people.

Read this thread to get a glimpse into where fire prevention falls in the CA budget. TLDR: it’s not a priority and never has been.
A word on the wildfire prevention funding. In the aftermath of the North Bay Fires in 2018, the Legislature and Jerry Brown reached a budget deal to do $200 million/year for 5 years. Prior to that we were doing pretty much nothing on fuel reduction. Over several decades, radical environmental policy allowed our forests and wild lands to become tinderboxes.

I spoke with Jose Medina who lost his home and a shed where he kept all his possessions and working equipment.
He’s owned this home on Glenrose Ave since 1985 and is an electrician. Says the fire came suddenly and had no opportunity to save anything.
