Trial runs on Kolkataโs Orange Line between Beleghata and Sector V are targeted to begin on October 10, Mahalaya. RVNL plans testing including software alignment, synchronisation and checks. The 366-metre gap between Chingrighata and Sukantanagar has been bridged. A push-trolley inspection of the BeleghataโIT Centre section was completed on September 17.
If trials and clearances are successful, commercial operations to Sector V are targeted for Christmas 2026. Three stationsโGour Kishore Ghosh, Nalban and Sector Vโwill take the corridor from 9+ km to over 14 km. Sector VโCity Centre II is targeted for June 2027, while the Airport extension is planned by end-2027, taking the corridor beyond 32 km.

The first push trolley inspection on the BeleghataโIT Centre section of Kavi SubhashโJai Hind Bimanbandar Metro Corridor (#OrangeLine) has been conducted successfully marking a major milestone for the project. With the viaduct and ballastless track (BLT) works on the section now complete, the stretch is ready for beginning of the electrical works.

A 13-storey mixed-use complex costing โน250โ300 crore is planned near Howrah station under a PPP, with the state holding 70%. The proposed complex will include a bus terminus, AC passenger lounge, taxi and app-cab facilities, two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking, retail, shopping mall, food court, theatre, auditorium and affordable AC accommodation. A KMDA skywalk will connect it directly to the station.
Alongside this, the state government will spend โน45 crore to revamp the 350-metre main subway and 50-metre ferry ghat subway. Planned upgrades include granite flooring, PVC ceilings, LED lighting, CCTV, fire systems, digital displays, signage and escalators. Work starts after Pujo, targeting completion before Pujo 2027. The network handles around 60 lakh passengers daily.
