What the heck is going on with Valley Link, the planned BART connector line in the far East Bay?
Here's some info from the June project meeting.
The 11 mile, 3 station initial line is projected to cost $2b and serve 16,000 riders per day by 2050.
Construction is slated to begin in 2029, with completion expected by 2033.
Frequency of the battery-electric trains would be designed to match BART's Dublin/ Pleasanton line: Every 15 minutes on weekdays and between 30 to 40 minutes on weekends.
However, operating hours look like they'd be shorter than BART's, with service ending at 8:30 pm on weekdays and 8 on weekends.
The project has steadily shrunk over time due to funding constraints. Its first phase will no longer make it over the Altamont Pass or provide a link between the Bay Area and the Central Valley.
The current funding picture for Valley Link is pretty opaque. The project has secured $63 million from the region and $44m in state and local funds.
It's expecting another $460m in local funds and some $300m from the region and state. Much of the rest would come from federal grants.
