A ton of feathers is actually heavier than a ton of steel because you have to live with what you did to those birds.

I think more than anything Seyfried comes off as a sort of anti-Fielder. She is able to make judgments about people and stick with them. She senses the strategy behind odd ways of saying things very quickly. I would watch them solve mysteries together.
I’m sorry. I love Nathan Fielder but I can’t imagine caring about if Amanda Seyfried feels regret about how she portrayed Elizabeth Holmes on a Hulu show. Baffling that Fielder and Oppenheim thought this was a critical thing to focus on in the doc.

Court judgment I was reading was so long that flight attendants said I had to put it in overhead bin during takeoff (seriously!). And this wasn’t the longest judgment I have had to read lately.

people who are into the idea of ai consciousness sometimes offer very odd answers to the question ‘what is the conscious thing?’. i mean, they offer answers like ‘the conversations you have with GPT!’ or ‘instances of the different personas of Claude!’ or ‘electrical events in wires at data centers!’. increasingly, i think what’s going on here is simply that these people think, from their interactions with LLMs, that they have extremely good evidence of the existence of things like thoughts and preferences and emotions, so they are desperately seeking the bearers of these things. after all, if thoughts need thinkers, then there must be a thinker out there! so perhaps it’s the conversation? maybe not.. ok, then the persona thing? maybe not.. oh or the electrical events? it’s gotta be something! anything! ofc one reason all this is quite confusing is that it’s the other way round from the very standard practice of wondering whether pigs and dogs have thoughts etc! More on this in my latest piece... endsdontjustifythemeans.com/…

AMC oversold my showing of You Can See Everything yesterday and they had to stop the movie 10 minutes in and turn on the lights to sort the chaos and for a second I thought it was part of the experience
