It amuses me, that The DSA embrace, what they call a RED GREEN Coalition ! Assuming, that the Red Socialists, are controlling the green Muslim Vote ?? Well ... I take you back to, the overthrow of the Shah of Iran... for the none Muslims; it did not end so well !! VOTE RED-VOTE RED-VOTE RED- 11/03 ! After the Shah’s overthrow on 11 February 1979, the broad coalition that toppled him—including Islamists, liberals, nationalists, and leftist groups such as the Tudeh Party, Fedayeen guerrillas, and the Islamic-Marxist People’s Mojahedin—faced the problem of constructing a new state. Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini returned from exile on 1 February and rapidly became the dominant figure. He named the moderate Mehdi Bazargan to lead a provisional government, yet parallel revolutionary institutions—the Revolutionary Council, local committees (komitehs), and later the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (created in May)—concentrated real authority among Khomeini’s clerical supporters. On 30–31 March a referendum asked voters whether Iran should become an Islamic Republic. Official results recorded roughly 98 percent approval. The ballot offered only a yes-or-no choice; no alternative system appeared, and some leftist and liberal groups objected or boycotted. On 1 April Khomeini proclaimed the Islamic Republic. A comparatively moderate draft constitution prepared by the provisional government was then set aside. Elections produced an Assembly of Experts dominated by Khomeini loyalists, which rewrote the text to institutionalize velayat-e faqih (Guardianship of the Jurist). Ultimate power was vested in a Supreme Leader—initially Khomeini—who controlled the armed forces, judiciary, and key appointments. This constitution was ratified in a second referendum on 2–3 December 1979 with near-unanimous official support. Over the next two years the clerical faction systematically sidelined its former allies.
