I like how in all those behind-the-scenes reels, Chakaev is just there mogging, having beefed up instead of taking the usual retirement route of getting fat or skinny
Like always, this needs a broader look
Russia has a centralized national team system, while the US focuses on individual preparation. Guys like Snyder and Dake don’t even want to “waste” time at the Olympic Training Center
That’s why US wrestlers might benefit from doing all that, because it’s already planned into their preparation
Russian wrestlers are meant to train at camps with the national team. While their daily training is individualized, the whole year is planned out
Wrestlers who want to do something extra have to step outside that plan and disrupt it
No wonder the national coach isn’t supportive of it, since he’s the one held accountable for all the results, unlike in the US
On the other hand, you had Yui Susaki, who traveled a lot before the Olympics and even “trained” in Dagestan with Sidakov
But after she lost at the Olympics, she wasn’t there anymore. Now she’s won another World title

Four of our five gold medalists participated in RAF in the last 12 months. Just sayin’

just playing my brother. real american wrestlers love and respect dagestan.
For the whole Pennsylvania or US vs Dagestan discussion:
Ramazanov spent some time living and training at my club in a small Polish city. To make some money, he worked security at soccer matches for a few bucks a week
He lived in Poland, moved back to Russia, and when he couldn’t get past Naifonov, he moved to Romania and eventually Bulgaria, where he became an Olympic champion
At the same time, Brooks was at the biggest wrestling university in the world, training under Cael and even having the privilege of getting accustomed to the Olympic pressure in Tokyo as a sparring partner for 🐐 David Taylor
There’s a difference. That’s why we give guys like Ramazanov so much credit, while we expect greatness from guys like Brooks
Even if it was decided by the challenge, it’s still so funny that it’s the same ref from the Amouzad-Tevanyan match

Gadzhi with both feet out of bounds was allowed a scoring action. If ONE foot is out the action can only be continued for the attacking wrestler. This was a blatantly horrendous and wrong call.
Him and others talk about Pennsylvania being better than other countries, especially Dagestan
As if Pennsylvania didn’t have 4 times the population and 82 times the wealth
Can’t beat those “dumb Americans” allegations 🤷🏼♂️
Great guy
Glad you guys stopped using him as a tool to prove someone is better than PSU
He was clearly feeling all that
Hope he can get healthy, clear his head and put all of this behind him, then prove he’s the guy to win Olympic gold
Spencer the day of tearing his ACL:
"I looked at my coaches and I was like, it's over, my career's over. You know, fourth one, what do you do? You know, I'm like, god damn, everyone's telling me, everyone's blaming my coaching staff, the University of Iowa.
And then, just me, man, there's a problem with me, something's wrong with me. You know, I got bad knees, I guess, you know. And, you know, Tom looked at me and goes, what do you want to do? And I said, well, I'm gonna go wrestle.
And if I go lose again, you know, the media's gonna hate me"
The real question is, why does anyone still believe it won’t go the same way this time?
Even the greatest technical wrestler of all time, Adam Saitiev, with Gatsalov wonder why the gimmick stopped wrestling after the 4th minute and just stood there like an 🇺🇸 agent
If this link-up happens and Arash goes to Hasavyurt, I’m back on the gimmick train stronger than ever
