The Russian government's cash crunch now finally extends to the military, as Russia's Ministry of Defense has announced that all officers not currently serving at the front will be skipping their December salary.
No reason has been given. This waa uncovered this morning by Russian media outlet Verstka.

Shameful that this guy in the United States, attending this meeting.
There was a time when the international system was firmly against annexation.
We all worked together to oust Saddam from Kuwait.
Now look at us. Now look at Trump.
🤡 Lavrov spent more than 20 hours flying to the US for a G20 meeting — forced to avoid flying over "unfriendly" countries
The Kremlin official stepped off the plane wearing jeans and a sweater.
In Atlanta, Lavrov will attend a gathering of foreign ministers from the Group of Twenty (G20).
The talks will serve as preparation for the G20 summit, scheduled to take place in Miami on December 14–15.
The Russian delegation is expected to hold a series of bilateral talks in the coming hours, including with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The ranking members of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees have written a letter to President Trump asking whether he has been soliciting advice from Grok in order to help carry out his official duties as President of the United States.
They also demanded that he preserve any prompts sent to Grok, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity, as well as outputs in response to those prompts, that were 'submitted to AI chatbots in carrying out your constitutional, statutory, or other official or ceremonial duties.'
The letter was provided by Politico.

Fox: Why are you here this morning?
Trump rally attendee: Well, in the late 70s, I was a little too young to go to South America for the Jonestown Massacre. But this is as close as I'll ever get, so that's why I'm here. There's nothing like seeing a cult right up front.

Presidentes NO crean empleo directamente.

Grant applications have become a lottery. A 60% growth in applications to one of the world’s most prestigious research-grant programs is resulting in an exceptionally low success rate
I think this is one of the major problems of AI--it's creating tsunami of grant applications and turning the decision process into chaos.
Grant decisions already felt fairly random and this seems to make the system worse.

Obama tonight on his Cheesecake Factory line: "They mobilized a whole of government response to that joke. Not to inflation, but to that joke. The White House even called the Secretary of the Treasury. This is the man who is in charge of the economy. The person who's supposed to be figuring out how to make your life more affordable. The guy who's supposed to be figuring out how to lower inflation. And reduce interest rates. They told him he should hold a press conference in front of the Cheesecake Factory."

Lots of debate this week on whether journals should ban AI in peer review.
We actually tested this in our new preprint, and the results were pretty clear to me.
For context, I've reviewed for most of the big journals and evaluated 1,000 human reviews as an editor. I love to read and evaluate science.
TLDR: From now on I won't do any peer review without AI. For clinical trials, I'd even call human-only review dangerous 🧵

Could Marine Le Pen, runaway favourite and twice convicted, still be banned from taking part in the French presidential election next April-May? A very senior, retired French judge has infuriated the Far Right leader by confirming what we at @EurasiaGroup said in July. Yes, Le Pen COULD still be banned - in two circumstances. 1/
