Good morning @thebarcouncil Is this abuse by a barrister acceptable or does it breach professional standards? If it is unacceptable, what will the profession do about it? Or if it’s acceptable, why? mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ru…

So now we can say the thing that we couldn't say before: that Russell Brand's barrister's arguments on his client's behalf were utterly disgraceful and seemed rooted in the misogynistic past

What a superstar performance. Dominated the House sent the Tories packing. A Labour government is so much stronger with Louise in it.
Standing in for Andy Burnham Louise Haigh clashed with Tory deputy leader Alex Burghart over the government's welfare spending at PMQs.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney delivers a blunt message to Russia: “You cannot bomb Ukrainian cities and then send your junior players to Alberta to play hockey as if you were civilised people. No Russian or Belarusian teams at the World Junior Championship. Not under your flags. Not under any other flags. Period.”

Nigel Farage’s story about why he didn’t attend the Budget is unravelling. Again. It turns out that he never put in a card to reserve his seat in the first place. All cards are dated and you have to be there for Prayers at the start of business to keep your seat. It’s called a “Prayer Card”. First come first served and people queue up from before 8am on Budget Day to be allowed in the Chamber of the House of Commons. He, but more likely a colleague, put in a card for him. (Not allowed.) And more than that, it wasn’t the current day’s date. So the Doorkeepers who mind the Chamber and check the cards removed it. It wasn’t valid. So his story that another MP removed it and he didn’t want to get into an argument is wrong. He just couldn’t be arsed to put it in for himself.

After yesterday’s post about the Russell Brand trial, my inbox was flooded with people claiming this is all just a coordinated media conspiracy. Well, I hope those same people actually read what came out of Southwark Crown Court today, because Brand took the witness stand and completely shredded his own defense. Under cross-examination, he openly admitted to "inconsistencies" in his evidence, awkwardly asking the prosecution for forgiveness. Even more damning, his own barrister asked him if a single friend or colleague from twenty-five years in showbusiness was willing to stand up in that courtroom and speak for his character. His answer was no. Not a single person would touch him with a barge pole. Think about what that actually means. Decades surrounded by entourages, agents, and industry friends, and not one human being is willing to take an oath on his behalf. Then look at how he described women to the jury today. He admitted saving a complainant’s name in his phone labeled with a degrading slur and a sexual act. When asked if a woman expressed reluctance to an encounter, he casually dismissed her hesitation as "coquettishness and coyness." This is not a misunderstood free-thinker being silenced for his politics. This is an arrogant narcissist who used celebrity status to treat women like disposable commodities, and is now watching his carefully rehearsed narrative crumble under basic legal scrutiny. Stop falling for the staged internet guru act. The admissions coming out of his own mouth in that courtroom tell you everything you need to know.

He really is the biggest drama queen out there
Exclusive: Nigel Farage's "physical altercation" during the State Opening of Parliament was with the Lib Dem MP Caroline Voaden - and has caused an major row between Reform and the Lib Dems. Lib Dem sources say Voaden was left "shocked and shaken" after he "shoved" her to secure a place in the procession of MPs to the King's Speech. Video from the Commons Chamber that day shows Farage and Voaden making their way down from their benches together. Voaden reported the incident to the Serjeant at Arms and says Farage was asked to apologise - but hasn't. A Reform spokesman denies any wrongdoing by Farage, saying "it was the Lib Dem MPs being aggressive towards Nigel". Lib Dems say that is "utter nonsense" Farage said yesterday that the "physical altercation" was the reason he didn't put up a fight to be in the Chamber for the Budget after his prayer card to save a space was removed. He said he thought that after the row with Voaden, it was "better to avoid conflict". But in a further twist, a Commons spokesman says Farage's card was only removed because it didn't have a date stamp, which are required to reserve a spot. Mr Polanski, I know you have a reputation for being scrupulous about checking your facts, but you’ve missed an important detail. My contract requires me to remain on leave from the Lords, surrender my parliamentary pass and forgo all access and voting rights for the duration of my employment at Palantir. I do not, therefore, take any whip. I fear this makes me rather less useful to the whips’ office than you imply.
It is beyond ridiculous that this man is still a life peer and retains the Labour whip.

The man spent an hour watching TV with his mate to help raise some money for cancer. Maybe chill out?
'Is that a really good use of his time?' 'Raising money for a cancer charity?' The Green Party's @floschechter brands Andy Burnham going on Gogglebox as 'ridiculous'.

She was only four when Trump said he would end the war in 24 hours. Just turned six when Musk decided to join Trump on Putin’s side and help the Kremlin killers murder her
At the funeral of one of the Ukrainian kids murdered by Russians this week, while the U.S. hobbled the country's defenses. Elizaveta Sorochyshyna, age 6. Relatives and friends left stuffed toys near her coffin. Elizaveta was one of three children among the 23 people killed by russians that day.

Seems a pretty fair assessment of what’s going on
Pretty clear that Trump/Hegseth are doing everything they can to force Ukraine to surrender to Putin by withholding all US assistance while actively helping fund the Russian war machine to kill as many civilians as possible including kids. What a dark, evil chapter in US history.

A man dies and Trump takes time out of his day to actively mock him, all while his family makes billions off the presidency, oil prices and grocery prices soar and he bombs schoolgirls in Iran. Is this what you voted for MAGA?

While Donald Trump was posting AI slop of him wrestling a tiger, Russia was ripping up the "energy ceasefire" he claimed to have agreed with Kyiv and Moscow.
Overnight, the Russians used 39 ballistic missiles and more than 120 attack drones and loitering munitions against our energy and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, the Kyiv region, and Kharkiv. A targeted Russian ballistic missile strike specifically against energy infrastructure – the very infrastructure covered by the ceasefire announced by the American President. The strike was entirely deliberate and demonstrative in its scale – Russia has never before shown such ostentatious disrespect toward the United States. Russia does not consider the American President’s statements strong. Unfortunately, at least 600,000 people are now without power. Outages could become even more widespread. Unfortunately, there is significant damage to facilities and equipment – at 26 facilities of our power system and four facilities in the oil and gas sector. I am grateful to the repair crews, all Ukrainian energy workers, and the personnel of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine for all their efforts to address the aftermath of this Russian strike. Tragically, there have been fatalities and injuries. We ask America and EVERYONE in the world who does not turn a blind eye to reality to respond – and to respond forcefully. Russia has squandered the opportunity for de-escalation and has clearly chosen to continue its insane war of annihilation. We ask President Trump to impose STRONG sanctions on Russia, especially since the Lindsey Graham bill, which was recently passed and signed into law, authorizes and regulates such measures. The American President has all the effective and necessary tools to bring peace closer through strength, justice, and pressure on the aggressor. We ask for additional packages of Patriot missile interceptors for Ukraine. It is entirely fair for us to tell the United States, Europe, and all our partners that no country in the world should be left alone to face such a deranged and pro-war actor as Russia. I am grateful to everyone who helps Ukraine! Peace can only come through strength, and we ask America to remember this principle of Reagan’s. Glory to Ukraine!

This announcement is a disgrace. You know how Trump could bring down gas and diesel prices? By ending his illegal war with Iran. Instead, he's going to help fund Putin's war machine.
Today, at President Trump’s direction, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is immediately issuing a temporary general license to allow the supply of Russian diesel to the global market.

Yeah, how dare he defend his country against invasion and refuse to give up its sovereign territory. Who the hell does he think he is?

In other words: Donald Trump is going to try to win back US votes with cheaper gas prices before the midterm elections by enriching Putin’s war machine, so he can keep killing 1000s of Ukrainians. Dire.
