🚨 BYLINE TIMES INVESTIGATION: A senior Reform UK councillor is facing questions after a polling company contradicted claims used to support £150,000 private security patrols in Essex towns.
Russell Quirk, deputy leader of Essex County Council, cited a survey suggesting strong public support for increased security around areas visited by asylum seekers.
But the pollster told Byline Times that 562 people took part, rather than the 1,000 described to councillors.
It also confirmed that respondents were asked about additional police officers, not privately employed security guards.
The survey had been commissioned through a public relations company owned by Quirk.
Quirk declined to comment on the investigation.
The £150,000 patrol scheme was awarded without an open competitive procurement exercise, although the contractor disputes suggestions of political favouritism.
