Food for thought!

Ratatouille. FUNNY MOUSE. But so much to think about. Hustlers must watch.
Ratatouille is such a great movie because it’s ruthlessly in favor of meritocratic inegalitarianism. “Anyone can cook,” not “everyone can cook.” The duty of Chef Linguini is to forfeit his arbitrary inherited status as a human and serve to elevate the deserving übermaus Remy.

very interesting job…
I’m building a team in DC. Everyone in Washington has a stake in ensuring that reliable info about alignment and RSI reaches the public. We need trustworthy communicators who can explain METR's loss-of-control risk assessments and goals to policymakers.

.@JoinFAI's name means several things. But one is just what it says.
A resilient financial system provides the foundation for American innovation and a strong community banking sector. The OCC will take a risk-based approach to supervision, including oversight of the largest OCC-regulated issuers, and retains authorities that expressly address financial stability. As the new industry grows, the OCC will monitor potential contagion risks and take action as warrant by financial conditions. OCC.gov/GENIUS

Excited to share this updated primer on the Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) with @danielschuman. With new economic/cyber/bio/and other policy challenges arising from AI, now would be a great time to invest in greater science and tech capacity in Congress. cc @SpeakerJohnson @hakeemjeffries

That's a great question -- @ZacharyGraves and I have written at length on OTA. But, if you just want a short primer, we got you covered. thefai.org/posts/one-pager-o…

EXCLUSIVE: California has spent $618 million on environmental impact reports for its doomed high-speed rail project. We printed out all 130,000 pages and tried to shoot a .50-caliber bullet through them.

OpenAI models helped researchers—operating as part of our Patch the Planet initiative—discover critical security flaws in PHP, an open-source programming language used to run an estimated 70% of websites. Over the past two months, we led a coalition of maintainers, researchers, and security providers to prepare fixes and protections ahead of disclosure. This duration was necessary because the fix was quite intricate and required a major change to the PHP engine. Every site using PHP can now safely upgrade their version to stay secure, in addition to applying mitigations from various security vendors. Due to the severity of these flaws and PHP’s widespread use, we consider this bug to be one of the most impactful vulnerabilities in recent memory. It also marks a new phase, where AI can find security bugs with internet-scale impact. This is an example of the Defender’s Window in action: to our knowledge, frontier AI was able to find this vulnerability ahead of attackers, giving defenders time to prepare. openai.com/index/coordinated…

This should be lots of fun - @hamandcheese & @aaronsibarium, moderated by @sckimbriel!
Just before Halloween, we're teaming up with @AspenInstitute to host a debate on the haunted question of AI consciousness. On the evening of 10/29 in DC, come see @hamandcheese and @aaronsibarium duke it out over whether there's really a ghost in the machine.

in general, NYT Styles recs are anti-signals. Trump and Zohran both wear business attire with no gimmicks to great effect—lesson in that!
NYT style is recommending tie-less suits with dress sneakers to disown the cons. Bleak.

Americans are the most generous people on the planet—both ordinary citizens and our wealthiest business leaders. We give >$600B/yr annually. Rapid innovation on how to give (Trump accounts, focused research orgs, befnets & vaccines, etc) will do so much good. Long USA! 🇺🇸
