Publishing in our current system involves an enormous amount of wasted mental cycles by some of the smartest people on the planet. Hmm.

There are a lot of people on Hinge that need your therapist
I told my therapist I want a boyfriend to go on fun dates with but never want them to sleep over and ideally never want to touch them and she let me know what I'm looking for is actually called a friend.

Just last month, DoorDash couldn’t seem to find the money to pay their deliveristas — until our administration forced them to give back $131M+ in stolen wages and penalties. This week, they’ve managed to find $17 billion to acquire one of their main competitors. Corporate consolidation means higher prices, harsher exploitation, and greater economic inequality for New Yorkers. We’ve stood up to these giants before. That doesn’t stop now.

I first presented this story at @KeystoneSymp in Breckenridge in 2022. @ZoltArany was skeptical. But he took the idea seriously. Over the next few years, whenever we crossed paths, he kept challenging me on it. Those conversations helped me understand just how high the burden of proof would be to convince the field. The paper is better because of them. Eventually: “You might be right.” Four years later, @AranyLab’s Trace Thome and Zolt have written a thoughtful commentary on our paper. Apparently we’ve advanced to “dogma-defying.” One day I might actually be right... nature.com/articles/d41586-0…

Our atlas of young-onset CRC is finally out in @NatureMedicine! We found a unique biology in younger patients that may explain the aggressive nature of this disease. This was a monumental effort with colleagues at @MassGenBrigham and @broadinstitute. @DFarberYoungCRC
Researchers co-led by @KimmieNgMD of @DanaFarber and @DFarberYoungCRC created the largest single-cell atlas of colorectal cancer ever, identifying age-associated differences that may help research into why #colorectalcancer can be more aggressive in younger adults. ➡️bit.ly/4kmBFEl

A tremendously collaborative effort led by co-first authors: @molecularpepsi (our amazing former postdoc), @joevisker, @jn_velascosilva, and James Carrington (our awesome grad student)! Congrats to all authors, co-senior authors @gsducker and @StavrosDrakos, and everyone who contributed!
I'm very happy to share the final version of our paper, “MCT1-dependent mitochondrial lactate import sustains cardiac metabolism,” out in Nature! We show how lactate fuels heart mitochondria and helps protect the heart during stress. nature.com/articles/s41586-0… @UofUBiochem 1/10

We are entering the era of LLM-GenAI validated and evaluated proposals! But also… there’s no way to responsibly evaluate so many grants. Well, we saw it with Marie Curie Fellowships. Interviews or nothing …
European Research Council announces 60% increase in applications More researches writing proposals means less time doing research & more resources spent assessing bids Ever-expanding competition for finite pot of money is not research excellence erc.europa.eu/news-events/ne…
