October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, and October 16 is DLD Day. Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) overlaps with dyslexia more than most educators realize, and students with DLD are frequently overlooked because their struggles are quieter than dyslexia's more familiar signs.
IMSE is hosting a free 3-part live webinar series to help educators recognize both, covering screening and instructional action, spotting DLD in the classroom, and understanding how the two conditions co-occur. Handwriting fluency consists of legibility and rate. When assessing students’ handwriting rate, you can look toward average rates by grade level. Find free handwriting assessments and further scoring guidelines on our website: irrc.education.uiowa.edu/lif…
ALT What are typical writing speeds for students? When assessing handwriting, a rate score represents the number of legible letters produced by the student per minute. There are general reference points for the average number of correct letters formed per minute on copy tasks completed by typically developing students in Grades 1-9 (Graham et al., 1998).
