CONCLUSION 🧵(1/2): Putin would have the world, and especially the United States, believe that he is somehow holding back from crushing Ukraine, but that he could do so at any moment of his choosing. The opposite is the case. If Putin had had a way of ending the war quickly, he surely would have used it. The effort to field an army large enough to make virtually no gains is costing Putin a fortune, driving up inflation in Russia, and generating increasing social discontent. Fielding a larger army would cost more with no guarantee of materially changing the situation on the front. That is why Putin is holding back at least for now. ⬇️ Putin has likely recognized the folly of trying to drown Ukraine in Russian blood and has instead opted to try to hammer Ukraine into submission with a strategic bombing campaign. The Russians have secured a temporary advantage in the skies over Ukraine through their jet-powered drones and the shortage of Patriot missiles that can intercept their ballistic missiles. But Ukraine is fielding solutions to defend against the jet-powered drones, and it is hardening and decentralizing its infrastructure to survive the ballistic missile strikes (as well as developing its own ballistic missile interceptors, although that effort will take time). The Russian strikes are currently devastating Ukrainian energy and other infrastructure and imposing a brutal cost on Ukrainian civilians—as Putin intends. But there is no reason to think that this strategic bombing campaign will be any more successful than every other strategic bombing campaign in history—all of which have failed to compel a country holding its own on the battlefield to surrender.
It is unclear whether Putin is lying about Russian gains or being lied to by his own military—or both. Russian military correspondents constantly complain of what they call “beautiful reports” that Russian military units send to higher headquarters, claiming gains they have not made. Ukrainian forces say that they have been able to use the Russian military’s own internal culture of lying to their advantage, luring Russian troops into traps because the Russians think that they are moving through territory they control. Leaked Russian military maps show phantom gains, often matching Putin’s claims. The pervasive lying within the Russian military is a problem for Russian soldiers, but likely an advantage for Putin, as it supports his own efforts to present Russian forces as advancing and winning when, in fact, they are doing neither.

"There’s no news about Patriot missiles, and frankly, nobody is even asking about production licenses for them anymore. Interestingly enough, we were never granted licenses to produce these missiles because our "partners" in the US fear that if we scale up production, a bunch of countries will no longer depend on the US—and they can't let that happen at any cost! Someone is terrified for their profits, while we're over here fearing for our lives. Such is life." - Popular Ukrainian Blogger Associated with Air Defense's Vanek.

This chart is insane. This shows Russia's casualties over time compared to Russia's territorial gains in Ukraine over the last five years. No sane or rational person would say continuing the war to try and take more of Ukraine's territory is worth the casualties.

🇵🇱 “The myth that Russia always wins has been successfully planted in the West. But history tells a very different story,” — Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski The minister pointed out that Russia has not always emerged victorious from its wars: “They lost the Crimean War. They lost the war against Japan. They emerged from World War I with their tails between their legs. They lost their invasion of Poland. They lost in Afghanistan. And they lost the Cold War.” “So things can turn out very differently,” Sikorski emphasized.

Ungarn 🇭🇺 brauchte 16j gegen Orban Serbien 🇷🇸 brauchte 14J gegen Vucic Wieviel Jahre braucht Deutschland 🇩🇪 gegen Höcke/Weidel? #AfDVerbotSofort – at Neuenburg am Rhein, Deutschland

NATO accepts, on the condition that Russia push back to its 1462 borders and clear out troops and equipment from countries along NATO’s borders.
⚡️ Russia aims to use Ukraine peace negotiations to push NATO back to its 1997 borders, according to The Telegraph. Diplomatic sources say Moscow wants European nations at the table to demand NATO clear out troops and equipment from countries along Russia's border.

President Zelenskyy on "The Diary Of A CEO" with Steven Bartlett: "I've always told President Trump, broker an energy ceasefire, at least on energy. At least let's give people light. And good for the Russians, they'll sell their oil if they want to, if that's what you need. But President Trump can't reach an agreement with Putin on this. Putin refuses him an energy ceasefire. And so the President decided to pin this problem, not on Putin, but on me, explaining to his people that because of this, diesel prices in America are going up. That is completely untrue."

Translated, that means: Once we've won, we're ready to negotiate with Ukraine (the exact terms of surrender). Don't let MAGA and Russian propaganda fool you.
Putin-Witkoff talks were “thorough and candid,” Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov tells reporters, but although there were “new approaches” noted from Europe/Kyiv, there was “little useful” in terms of Ukraine. However, Moscow “is willing in principle” to restart trilateral Russia-Ukraine-US talks from mid-November (no such talks since February; previous attempt to restart was scuppered by Kyiv, Ushakov says, during parliamentary elections). Those talks would focus on post-war security guarantees.

🇺🇦 Zelenskyy delivers a blunt message to the United States: “Just give us Starlink back. If you refuse, Ukraine will survive. We will continue defending ourselves with or without it. But why would you restrict a country fighting for its survival? Why make it harder for us to defend our people? I simply cannot understand the reasoning behind this decision. It is a mistake.” Ukraine isn’t asking America to fight its war. It’s asking America not to stand in the way of its defense.

A year and a half ago Trump stopped helping Ukraine defend itself, and put pressure on Zelenskyy to make a deal with Russia. Now, Trump is actively supporting Putin: waiving sanctions, disrupting StarShield, and making a diesel deal. (1/3)

Für #laschet scheint die Frage schon beantwortet…
Ex Canadian Deputy PM Freeland: Europeans, Britain included, must ask if they are ready for Russia to be Europe’s dominant military power and to dictate Europe’s security terms. The answer is an unequivocal no. Then Europe has to support Ukraine until Ukraine wins. 1/

Ukraine is asking the EU for 70 billion euros to continue fighting in 2027. That is 0.4% of the EU GDP or 155 euros per European. Not having a battle-hardened victorious Russian army on Europe's border is worth roughly 2000% of the EU GDP. Our leaders must find the money.
