Vagus Nerve Signals Regulating Heart Function Discovered
Researchers have successfully isolated individual neurons in the vagus nerve that are responsible for regulating cardiovascular function in humans.
By identifying neurons that fire in sync with the heartbeat, they were able to distinguish those that monitor heart function from those that control heart rate.
This breakthrough allows scientists to study how vagus nerve activity changes in cardiovascular disease.
Previous research on the vagus nerve relied mostly on animal models, but this study provides the first direct insights from human participants.
The findings could lead to new treatments by targeting specific neurons involved in heart regulation.
Future research will investigate how these neurons behave in individuals with cardiovascular disease.
