Goa’s Coast Guard wants stray dogs removed from its premises. Feeding is banned, fines are threatened, and even eviction from quarters is listed as a penalty. The Panchayat is being asked to arrange teams to catch and relocate these dogs.
And apparently, there is NO CRUELTY.
More disturbingly, information shared by an insider alleges that the dogs were left without food for over 15 days and have now disappeared. Where are these dogs? What happened to them? Are they even alive?
If security is the concern, address it through lawful, humane and scientifically sound measures. But banning food and pushing community dogs out of sight is NOT animal welfare.
Where are these dogs supposed to go? Who will take responsibility for their lives after removal?
Why is adoption being used as an excuse to shift the responsibility onto a handful of volunteers?
A uniform, a security establishment or an institutional boundary does not put animals outside the protection of the law.
Stop treating community animals as a security nuisance. Ensure their safety, not their disappearance.
We request DC Spca and others to intervene and ensure immediate stop to this cruelty. Goa is about progressive approach.

Bombay High court at Goa pulls up local self government bodies over delay in submitting compliance reports over survey of stray dogs and setting up of shelters.
Btw, the NGOs in the animal care sector in Goa have been after the government as well as the local self government bodies to focus on Sterilization ( and vaccination) of the community dogs as the solution to the problem is reducing their number, towards which enough funding and infrastructure is the biggest issue, the NGOs point out.
