40 House Democrats Won’t Sign Letter Defending Ilhan Omar, Including Nancy Pelosi
In February 2023, every House Democrat voted to block Rep. Ilhan Omar’s removal from the Foreign Affairs Committee over her past comments about Israel. Republicans still removed her.
This week the picture looks different.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal led a letter signed by 175 House Democrats accusing DOJ and DHS of “weaponizing” law enforcement after agents searched Omar’s Washington, D.C. home earlier this month. The probe centers on allegations involving her late father’s immigration paperwork and her age at the time the family arrived from Somalia. A judge signed the warrant. Agents reportedly left with documents, phones, and other items.
Roughly 40 Democrats declined to sign. Among them: former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Josh Gottheimer (NJ), Tom Suozzi (NY), Laura Gillen (NY), and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA). Current Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries did sign.
The non-signers are disproportionately from competitive districts or areas with significant Jewish or moderate constituencies where embracing Omar has been politically costly.
Omar has a long record of controversial statements on Israel and other foreign-policy issues that many Democrats previously defended but now appear less eager to own right before Election Day.
Democrats usually close ranks.
When 40 of them, including Pelosi, choose not to, it is an early sign of the slow abandonment already underway.
Party leaders still defend her in public statements, but the number of Democrats willing to attach their names is shrinking.
For lawmakers in swing districts, the political risk of standing with Omar now outweighs the benefit.
Expect more distance as the investigation continues and the midterms approach.
The letter frames the search as election interference 22 days before the vote.
Those who stayed off it are letting that argument be made by others.

At the same time, a federal immigration fraud probe is advancing. Agents raided Omar’s D.C. home. Reports indicate no naturalization record exists for her father, the man through whom she claimed U.S. citizenship.
There are also questions about her reported birth year (her office requested a change in public records) and longstanding allegations involving her marital history. DNA evidence has reportedly been collected as part of the investigation.
Empty barrels. Missing immigration records. Massive unexplained swings in reported wealth.
The evidence is leaning toward both financial fraud and immigration fraud. The questions Omar’s team tried to bury are now the ones driving the probes.

At 65 Michael J. Fox shared a wish after living with Parkinson’s disease for 35 years. “I’d like to just not wake up one day. That’d be really cool. I don’t want it to be dramatic.” He wasn’t saying he wanted to give up on life. He was talking about the kind of ending he hoped for.
Falls have already taken a serious toll on his body. He has broken his elbow, hand, arms, shoulder and cheekbone. One injury required a plate in his face. These weren’t accidents from movie stunts. They were ordinary moments that became risky because his body no longer always did what he wanted it to do.
Fox was only 29 in 1991, newly married to actress Tracy Pollan, when doctors diagnosed him with early-onset Parkinson’s. For seven years he kept his diagnosis private. In 1998 he finally told the public. Tracy had married him in 1988. Together they built a family that eventually included their son Sam, twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, and their youngest daughter Esmé.
In 2018 Fox underwent surgery to remove a benign tumor from his spine. The operation affected his ability to walk. More falls followed. His 2023 documentary *Still* showed viewers the bruises on his face. Even his beloved guitar became a reminder of what Parkinson’s had taken from him.
Yet not every memory was filled with pain. In one moment he recalled standing with Tracy at a Vampire Weekend concert. As the band played “Harmony Hall,” Tracy danced beside him. Looking back he said, “I mean, there’s still a lot of people I love and a lot of people who love me, so where am I going?”
During another conversation in 2023 he explained, “And if you can find something to be grateful for, then you can find something to look forward to, and you carry on.” While discussing death and the possibility of a peaceful ending, Fox was also promoting his book *Future Boy* and preparing to return to television through *Shrinking*.
For now Michael J. Fox is still here, still surrounded by people he loves, and still making plans for tomorrow.

Could its Syrian bases facilitate similar operations?
There is no public proof linking those bases directly to Houthi attacks. But Russia's continued presence raises legitimate questions about intelligence collection, military logistics, and regional influence.
