How old are you? Well, there was a time when you made your own training boards at home, the delivery could take a month and the size was limited to 50x50mm,very expensive,no amazon,no PCBway nor JLCPB. I almost forgot the battle " PIC vs AVR", asm vs c 😝. 8bits papi!

Sigh. Think it's time to learn how to use stencils and solder paste

If you've put an ESP32 on a board, where it sits matters more than you'd think. Espressif tested one of their modules two ways: antenna past the board edge, and mid-board over copper. On channel 11, the mid-board one put out 6.9 dB less, about a fifth of the power.

Where you put a buck converter's input cap matters. Each time the chip switches, current jumps around a loop. A longer loop rings harder due to the increased inductance. Keeping the input capacitor close reduces the ringing.

Should a USB-C connector's shell go straight to ground, or through an RC (1 MΩ ‖ 4.7 nF)? Open boards are split. I hit both with a simulated 8 kV zap. Either way, 30 A lands in your ground. The cap is just left holding 249 V. Answer: straight, unless the box is earthed. 🧵

Thinking of a AR APP for my boards, who thinks this is an interesting idea ? Maybe I can add in the chronicles to it too!

This is easily the most complex board I’ve ever made. Trion T120 FPGA connected to 112 buffer IO lines. I attach (much cheaper) daughter boards to it and use the FPGA to explore and measure their behavior. NEC V35 in the hot seat this week.

cool concept to harvest chips from old boards, need to do that on DDR ram ;)
Full board scan and plan. This technique scans the whole board for chips that need to be removed and creates a path to move to the next chip for full autonomy. Tuurny.com
