Thrilled to have our story on the regulation of lysosomal lipids out in @Cell_Metabolism! The work was led by two outstanding grad students @_JessDavidson and Raghav Jain probing mechanistic control of energy expenditure @HHMINEWS @UWBiochem
New! Online now: Hepatic lipid remodeling in cold exposure uncovers direct regulation of bis(monoacylglycero)phosphate lipids by phospholipase A2 group XV dlvr.it/TKmVgH

I'm very happy to share the final version of our paper, “MCT1-dependent mitochondrial lactate import sustains cardiac metabolism,” out in Nature! We show how lactate fuels heart mitochondria and helps protect the heart during stress. nature.com/articles/s41586-0… @UofUBiochem 1/10

Cells make toxic metabolites every minute they’re alive. How do they survive them? In our @ScienceAdvances paper, we report that NRF2 coordinates the defences against genotoxic formaldehyde and ferroptosis resistance by regulating SLC7A11 (xCT)👇 science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…

Our new work by @YuyangLiu1996! Short-lived proteins are key regulators of metabolic homeostasis. By investigating their degradation, we identified TXNDC15 as a regulator of ER protein degradation and lipid homeostasis via a catalysis-independent mech. cell.com/cell-chemical-biolo…

Our work deorphanizing MCT6 as the missing gut Lac-Phe transporter is out today @CellCellPress: local gut lactate metabolism influences gut-brain crosstalk, and also explains metformin’s effects on body weight. Congratulations to @Shuke_Xiao @alanshtung! cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092…

We are excited to share this new preprint from our amazing postdoc, @luisci22! Luis discovered that liver cancer cells with overactive beta-catenin switch their mitochondrial fuel usage from glucose to fatty acid oxidation—an unexpected rewiring that challenges conventional Warburg metabolism.
Excited to share my new preprint from the @RutterLab! What sets a cell’s metabolic state? Using MPC1 as a readout in a CRISPR screen, we found that β-catenin regulates metabolic state in liver cancer cells, driving a switch from carbohydrate to fat oxidation. 🧵

And… I am SO excited to share our first research preprint! In this paper we determined several cryoEM structures to visualize the entire cell-to-cell bridging complex formed by TAM receptor and ligand, bringing into 3D a common graphical depiction. biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…
