The initial plan for F1’s next engine regulations have been revealed:
3.0-litre V8 turbo ✅
A smaller electrical motor ⚡
50kg lighter 🪶

There should be no noise restrictions. There should also be less street circuits anyway. Throw them out if they cannot handle the noise . We have purpose built brilliant circuits that should be on the calendar and should never have left. Get it right this time.
After betraying their fanbase by selling all broadcast rights to @AppleTV , @F1 can kiss my ass. F1 has made it crystal clear they have nothing but distain for their fans.
50kg lighter? Swapping a 1.6L V6 for a 3L V8 turbo and expecting 50kg lighter? Good luck. Doesn't need such a large capacity, could quite easily be a 1.5L-2L V8. The insanely overpowered cars in the 80s were 1.5L turbos making over 1000HP.
How do they plan to reduce the weight if it is a larger engine and keeps the turbo? The whole electronics and battery in the current engines only weighs 35kg. Are they returning to more exotic materials in the ICE to bring the weight down? Are they reintroducing refuelling?
Why the need for 3ltr? Way back in the 80's they were only 1.5ltr turbo. Only the non-turbo cars were 3ltr. Engine tech is immeasurably better now, so the bigger unit is just not needed. Imbeciles are running & ruining F1.
The only option should be 2.4L V8 with an electric supercharger: no exhaust blockage, free sound. To the hell with street circuits. If they have a contract and can't cause a violation of it, run the cars with limited rev only on this circuits, until the end of the contract
F1 is going back to basics. Good!
Less tech and over reliance on the pits.
But if you want to make it a sport again make it an option like in the late 80’s in early 90’s: 2.4L turbo with restricted flow and boost or 3L naturally aspirated engines.
No movable spoilers…
A naturally aspirated 3.0L V8 would be so loud that noise restrictions at several street circuits would become a problem. So the compromise became a relatively small turbo: still MUCH louder than today’s cars, but not the screaming sound from years past.
Overall it seems good but I think they need a slightly bigger electric motor. Maybe 150 kW which is around 200 HP. This would help reduce fuel consumption of the thirstier V8 to help save weight.
Yeah! But that configuration would create a monster. Last time they were 2.4-Litre going 18k RPM developing 800+ ponies. Keep the electrical as a boost for whatever occasion driver chooses. But add turbo, making smaller V6 2-litre engines. With today’s tech they will reach 1k HP easily.
It’s smarter to just bite the bullet and downsize.
"Old-school" F1 fans probably wouldn't even give it a listen, but IndyCar's 2.2L twin-turbo V6 sounds awesome and delivers plenty of power.
