I am deeply honored to have received the UNAM “Dr. Gustavo Baz Prada” 2024 Award for my social service project, which focused on evaluating how chronic sleep loss impacts memory and blood-brain barrier function. Super grateful for the opportunity to do science!

How much of adipocyte rhythms are driven by the cell’s own clock vs. signals from the body?
A new #JBR study finds 21% of transcripts are rhythmic in cultured adipocytes, revealing cell-autonomous regulation of metabolism, transport, and transcription.

Excited to share my lab’s latest preprint led by postdoc @YukiHaba_ and grad student Ryan Schwark. We surprisingly find that spontaneous behavior in isolation predicts a naked mole-rat’s identity, its colony membership, and even rank within its colony.

The way we age differs from person to person, but what shapes these trajectories?
A new #Science study found that 26% of genes and 39% of metabolites showed circadian-associated variation, highlighting how our clocks may influence the molecular changes we see with aging.
Aging does not appear to follow the same molecular script for everyone, according to an 8-year study of more than 300 women.
The findings in Science reveal that individual molecular trajectories of aging can diverge substantially from population-wide patterns and are shaped not only by genetics but also by factors such as circadian rhythm, seasonality, and environmental exposures. Learn more: scim.ag/4ikMUfG

We will launch an Ibero-American Brain Health & Dementia Network at @FENSorg 2026 in Barcelona, with all colleagues from Latin America and Spain to strengthen collaboration in brain health and dementia research. The initiative aims to connect researchers, institutions, and existing networks around shared priorities, data integration, and cross-continental cooperation. Together with @ANavarroFPM, David Vállez García, @durananiotz, and @erzimmer, we will discuss cohort harmonization, genetics, biomarkers, neuroimaging, exposome research, data-sharing frameworks, and international funding opportunities.
Looking forward to seeing many colleagues in Barcelona and shaping this next chapter together.

How does the postnatal brain build its circadian system? ⏰🧠
A #JBR study shows that diurnal rhythms emerge across the developing mouse brain in a region- and gene-specific manner. In microglia, functional rhythms even appear before clock rhythms.
