URGENT: A bipartisan group of Members of Congress is urging Secretary of State Marco Rubio to raise the detention conditions of former PM Imran khan @ImranKhanPTI and Bushra Imran Khan with the Government of Pakistan and seek an independent evaluation of their health, safety, and well-being. The timing could not be more critical. Khan previously warned that he feared being “slow poisoned” and left to perish in prison. Now, amid prolonged restrictions on independent access, growing concerns about his health and even whether he is alive are causing alarm across Pakistan and the diaspora. Independent verification of his health and safety is urgently needed. The congressional letter cites concerns raised by the UN Special Rapporteur on torture over Khan reportedly being held in solitary confinement for up to 23 hours a day, as well as Reuters reporting that his lawyer says he has lost 85% of the vision in his right eye. The UN has also raised serious concerns about Bushra Imran Khan’s reported detention conditions, including an airless, overheated cell, lack of clean drinking water, restricted family and legal access, weight loss, infections, and untreated medical complications. Independent verification is needed urgently. Thank you to @RepSubramanyam for leading this bipartisan effort and to every Member of Congress who signed. This is a call of conscience. Pakistan is watching. The Pakistani-American community is watching. The world is watching! @TLHumanRights @amnestyusa @MoeedNj @WajSKhan @State_SCA @Aleema_KhanPK @QasimKhanSuri @Jemima_Khan @sufisal @ShazadAkbar @worqas @ryangrim @Kasim_Khan_1999 @noreen_khanum @Noreen_KhanPK

PAKPAC is deeply troubled to learn about a plot targeting a Hindu Temple in Illinois where Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (@CongressmanRaja) and his family attend. We thank law enforcement personnel and all those who helped prevent this tragedy. Places of worship should be protected. No form of hatred is acceptable, we are all Americans. Freedom of worship is an American value. Hatred based on religion and national origin is against our American values. We must confront hatred and work to build a nation that is tolerant of our values, the foundations that America was founded on. We stand with our Hindu American community.

Pakistan World Alliance takes note of the findings of @amnesty in its report "Pakistan: Imran Khan's Continued Detention is a Travesty of Justice," which identifies the detention as arbitrary, politically motivated, and in violation of international human rights law, including the right to a fair trial. We respectfully urge the Government of Pakistan to give due consideration to these findings and to take the necessary steps toward remedy in accordance with its international obligations. We further call upon @UN_HRC, @EU_Commission, @Europarl_EN and relevant Special Procedures mandate holders to maintain sustained engagement on this matter.

My latest for @TheNatlInterest Pakistan and the Art of Over Promising "But if one thing is predictable in US-Pakistan relations over the last 70 years, it is that big promises often turn into big disappointments and even bigger blame games. Field Marshal Asim Munir’s role in the Iran peace process risks becoming another disappointment." nationalinterest.org/blog/si…

Prime Minister @andyburnham and Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband : how much longer will Britain remain silent? For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir,  which according to the UN,  amounts to torture and which  is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health.  He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors. The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture. He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years. Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive  medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons. Yet those orders are being defied. This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency. He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and  include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university. His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls.  I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not  intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father.  @FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court;  restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights. Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient. This an appeal to the new Burnham government  to please now do the right thing.

We are extremely concerned by Imran Khan’s medical assessment this month: incomplete investigation, diagnosis and treatment, and potentially inappropriate medication use. We urge his immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital, in line with the Supreme Court’s directions.

Thank you for the support @RepSuhas
Grateful to @RepSuhas for continuing to speak up for Imran Khan's human rights and health. As he said: "Hospitalization and access to his personal physician and family are needed steps in the right direction." Since his timely letter to the State Department urging attention to Khan and Bushra Imran Khan's detention conditions, we've seen encouraging developments, including today's hospital transfer. The damage from his ill treatment has already been done, and the Pakistani establishment bears full responsibility for it. Pakistani diaspora groups and people across Pakistan remain deeply concerned for his health and well-being. VOPA and @AmeriPakA, and our community across the 10th District and beyond, stood with his office on this letter. We thank him for standing with us, and we continue pushing until Khan and Bushra receive the full rights and dignity they're owed. @soulful7867 @MehlaqaCAPJ @MediaCentrePWA @TLHumanRights @SHABAZGIL @MoeedNj @ChangePakPolicy @justfp @Alliance4PJ @WajSKhan @RealWaqarMaliks @Waqarkhan @SHaiderRMehdi @ImranRiazKhan @ImranKhanPTI @ziadkhan @Syed_IYI Check out his full statement below 👇 subramanyam.house.gov/media/…
