Are we going to uphold such decisions? Then we have already aceeded to it.
In a case concerning cow slaughter, a Gujarat court has imposed life imprisonment on three Muslim men, relying on references to the Vedas and Manusmriti and placing considerable emphasis on the cow's religious significance within the Hindu tradition. Courts in India are generally expected to adhere to the country's written legal codes, including the Indian Penal Code and related statutes, as well as the Constitution, which establishes secularism, equality before the law, and the protection of fundamental rights for every citizen regardless of faith. Against this backdrop, the decision to base a criminal sentence on scriptural texts rather than on the statutory framework and constitutional principles is notable and has drawn attention for that reason. The contrast becomes even more striking when viewed alongside the treatment of other offenders in the country. In a nation where individuals convicted of rape and murder have been honoured with garlands and sweets upon their release and have even received remission of their sentences, the disparity in how society and the justice system respond to different categories of crime is difficult to ignore. The value placed on cows in this instance appears to exceed the value placed on women, on the victims of serious violent crime, and on many others whose lives and dignity the law is meant to protect equally.

Judicial decisions must be grounded in constitutional principles rather than in religious texts, because the authority of a court rests on the law enacted through the democratic process and on the constitutional framework that governs it. When a judge determines a sentence, the reasoning must be anchored in the statutes, precedents, and fundamental rights recognised under the Constitution of India, so that every citizen can understand and expect the basis of the outcome. Imposing life imprisonment while citing the Manusmriti in place of the standard legal statutes undermines secular democracy and equal justice under Indian law, since it allows a text that is not binding on the whole nation to dictate the fate of an individual. Such a practice would send the message that punishment depends on the personal faith or preferences of the adjudicator rather than on uniform legal standards applicable to all. Equal justice requires that people of every religion, caste, and background be judged by the same codified law, and that the state maintain a clear separation between religious doctrine and the machinery of criminal justice. Protecting this principle is essential to preserving public confidence in the courts and to upholding the secular character that the Constitution guarantees.

DEAR CITIZEN, India has suffered losses exceeding ₹150 lakh crore under Modi and Amit Shah (Tadipar). Serious questions arise, over public funds have been diverted through various government channels to benefit powerful corporate interests, particularly Adani and Ambani, while ordinary citizens have been deprived of their rightful benefits and entitlements, Where has this enormous public wealth gone forever, and who has benefited?

Refusal to register in India and the challenges of getting RSS registered in America. Its refusal to register in India has been a point of contention, as the organisation has consistently declined to submit itself to the formal registration process required under Indian law, citing its view of itself as a cultural and voluntary movement rather than a legal entity that needs state recognition. Meanwhile, efforts to get an RSS registered in America have presented their own set of difficulties, including questions about its legal status, the documentation required of non-profit or religious organisations, and the scrutiny that such applications often attract from regulators and the public alike.

A seven-year prison term was handed down for a murder conviction, while a cow slaughter case resulted in a life sentence! What is the test of justice—constitution, law, and evidence or religious scriptures? The Delhi High Court upheld a strict 7-year prison sentence for non-intentional murder in the case of Monish's death, while the Gujarat Kalol court sentenced three accused to life imprisonment in a cow slaughter case and mentioned the Vedas and Manusmriti in its verdict. Understand the legal basis of both decisions and the questions raised by the differences in the punishment.

Congress Faces a Strategic Crossroads Beyond Allegations of Electoral Malpractice. The Congress party is reshaping its protest strategy against the Modi government, moving away from its earlier claims of electoral theft and toward a broader 'people's impeachment' campaign. Led by Mallikarjun Kharge, the opposition is now calling for a return to paper ballots, a demand intended to restore public confidence in how votes are cast and counted. At the same time, it is intensifying its pressure on the integrity of the Election Commission, arguing that an independent and credible electoral body is essential to a functioning democracy. This shift marks a notable change in tone and tactics: rather than focusing narrowly on specific allegations of wrongdoing, the party is seeking to mobilise voters and frame the debate around accountability, transparency, and the fairness of the political process as a whole.
