1. I have made the case for and look forward to Helen Zille becoming mayor of JHB. I will also probably reiterate my case for voting for her just before November 4. But now I want to reflect on the character of some of the engagement & what it means for progressive change.

Security Misunderstood: an army needs a national purpose that its soldiers and citizens understand and share. When that purpose gives way to political expediency, those who serve bear the cost. We owe them leadership worthy of their sacrifice.

“Ethiopia must outgrow the 3,000-year civilization myth,” says Dr. Tsegaye Ararssa, Ethiopian international law scholar. Exactly! Ethiopians must outgrow this mythology like children outgrow Santa Claus stories. The Bible’s “Ethiopia” does not automatically mean today’s Ethiopian state, and the Solomonic narrative was used to legitimize imperial rule. Like its neighbors, modern Ethiopia’s borders took shape during the Scramble for Africa. It is time to abandon false historical grandeur, confront history honestly, and live in peace with Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan, Kenya and Djibouti. Peace begins when mythology gives way to history. #Ethiopia #Eritrea #HornOfAfrica #HistoryMatters #PeaceAndCoexistence

Moyale today is a cross-border twin town straddling a historic frontier. During the pre-colonial era (prior to the imposition of arbitrary imperial Abyssinian and colonial European boundaries), Moyale was a commercial hub for caravans transporting commodities across East Africa.
Upon establishing a colonial post near Fort Harrington (named in honour of British colonial envoy), the British colonialists negotiated the jurisdiction and status of Moyale with Sultan Gababa Mahad (the father of the celebrated Sultan Hassan Gababa) of the Garre Somali in 1902.

..to add on that, the intention is not to praise Jigjiga, but to belittle Asmara. It's another way saying, "Asmara is worse even than one of the worst towns in Ethiopia".
What is positive in this statement is that @AbiyAhmedAli acknowledges that Jigjiga is in a "worse condition." The most "developed" city in Ogaden, has neither running water nor reliable electricity despite the hullabaloo of "development" in the last 8 yrs.

The Time for Petty Political Ambitions is Over A few days ago, the discredited man in Villa Somalia declared his suicidal mission. His obliviousness to repeat history is crystal clear to any rational person, Somali or otherwise. His decision mimics the nihilism from Villa Somalia in 1990. If this is unchecked, his megalomania will permanently foreclose the future of not only many Somali generations, but the very prospect of the Somalia we all hope for and dream about. There is only one sure way to blunt his sadistic ambition. That is, the entire political opposition in Mogadishu and the provinces MUST realize that their individualistic and divisive ambition is what emboldens the chap in Villa Somalia. If the opposition truly cares about the fate of our people, then they must abandon their self-indulgent ambitions. It is high time that a single political coalition was formed whose sole purpose is to save the country from the impending calamity. The way to do it is to form one shared political coalition, based on consensus, and jointly owned agenda. Such a civic union must craft a common political plan for the next four years with clear accountable mandates and division of responsibilities. It is time to save our people’s destiny rather than nurse petty political ambitions

Looks like colonialism 2.0 to me. What the Abessinians and the Europeans did not achieve in the late 19th century - to cut out a further part of the Somali territories (in the northeast) - is now done by Somalis themselves, right? Instead of seeking to establish translocal ties and strengthen the control over Somali resources (the coast, the land, trade, natural resources offshore), Somalis fancy self-division?! Who will profit? Likely not structurally disenfranchised and military weak Somali fiefdoms like Somaliland, Puntland, South West State etc. Rather, established hegemons like Ethiopia and powerful oil-rich monarchies like UAE (and others) which all are in bed with the USA and Israel will eat the biggest piece of the cake. Some crumbs will be swallowed by the hungry Somali elites. The majority of ordinary Somalis will remain poor and vulberable. Sorry for this pessimistic scenario. Before you continue self-dividing, reflect on what the colonial partition 150 years ago has kicked off: wars, wars and more wars including resource drain and refugees. There must be an alternative. Why not work on a serious Confederatio Somaliae?

No Abyssinian/Ethiopian generation has ever escaped the horrors of war. No generation will ever evade the "future" wars. Colonialism & the politocal culture of violence is grained in the structure of the state. Decolonisation is the only way out of these cycles of misery.

Today, by the grace of Allah (SWT), I had the honour of presenting a Janaza ambulance to the Nakuru Muslim community, fulfilling a promise I made to them. This donation is more than just a gesture of goodwill, it is a commitment to stand with our Muslim brothers and sisters during moments of grief, loss and bereavement, ensuring that they can accord their departed loved ones a dignified and respectful final journey. May Allah (SWT) accept this humble contribution as an act of Sadaqah, place barakah in its service to the community and grant us all the wisdom and strength to serve humanity with compassion, humility and sincerity.

I don't think XSM has yet reached @M_Farmaajo's level of betrayal. Running for presidency says much about the political environment in Somalia as receptive to traitors - i.e., Ethiopian ass lickers
With no innovations, @HassanSMohamud is a "faithful" follower of your previou policies at the Villa. You have no moral authority or historical ground to criticize Somalia's current warlord. He has outperformed you, for not selling #Qalbidhagax to Abyssinia. @M_Farmaajo

Just like Somalis in western suits and skirts criticizing the qamis and hijab as non-Somali or Arab. They also speak English and Italian, but get offended when you say 'Assalami Aleikum'. Actually they are not for Somali values, they just hate anything associated with Islam.
Seeing Azeri secularists dismiss Islam as an Arab or Persian import sounds just like those Somalis who swear the hijab is Arab culture. The irony is wild—crying about foreign imports while being a complete product of Soviet communism brainwashing yourself. Still running on old Moscow settings and calling it native wisdom. 😂

📷 A Clarion Call to Somalis to Block Hassan Sh’s Suicidal Mission. Hassan Sh’s illegitimate threat to former President Shariff and the political opposition is tantamount to a declaration of civil war. Somalis know how a mindless dictatorship and the tribalist opposition destroyed our country. We must not allow  Hassan Sh’ foolish lust for power to destroy yet another generation of our youth. Former president Sharif may not be a political angel, but he and the Union of Islamic Court deserve our respect and honor as they liberated the country from the tyranny of 15 years of savage warlordism.  The current dictator would never have become president without Sharif playing by the rules. Hassan Sh. owes his presidency to Sharif. The way to stop Hassan Sh and his clowns from derailing our effort to build better Somalis is for the opposition to unify their individual agendas into a single and faithful communion and mobilize the population to usher in a new era. The Old Somali saying “ Gudcurku wuxu ugu madoow yahey  waa bari hortii.” This is similar to the English proverb which states that “The darkest hour is near the dawn.” To bring in the new dawn requires the unity of purpose by all Somalis, foremost among these is the political opposition. The salvation guide is: One civic agenda for one Somalia

The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) is one of four long-standing resistance and liberation organizations - the Karen National Union (KNU), Colombia's National Liberation Army (ELN), the Polisario Front, and the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) - with decades of organizational history and continuing political struggles as of 2026. The conflict in the Ogaden region (also known as the Somali region) under Ethiopia, remains an important issues / key factor in the wider security and political dynamics of the Somali peninsula (also known as the Horn of Africa). Unfortunately, Abiy Ahmed and the Oromo nationalist politicians who rule Ethiopia have undermined the implementation of the 2018 Asmara peace accord with the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), raising concerns about prospects for lasting peace, political reconciliation, and stability in the region. @ONLFofficial @FCDOGovUK @UKinEthiopia @_AfricanUnion @IGADsecretariat @UNDPPA @Polisario_ @Abdirik @dervishconan @EIshmael_
#Ethiopia's #ONLF reaffirmed its support for Coalition for Survival forces fighting on the northern fronts. In its October 10 statement, the group accused Abiy Ahmed's ruling party of repeating its 2020 victory celebrations and vowed to continue the struggle.
