An M&A would produce UpDog
Sources: Datadog offered to buy Israeli cloud cybersecurity startup Upwind Security for ~$4B; Upwind is finalizing a $300M funding round at a ~$3.8B valuation (The Information) (Visit Techmeme dot com for the link and full context!)

Great piece from @ayanobacter on optogenetics! A great reminder for anyone underestimating the complexity of novel science. - Science need tools to understand what we cannot observe. - And creativity to hypothesize and imagine what could be - Then experiments, reasoning, and persistence to create something new
My first piece for the @AmplifyPartners Writing Fellowship is out: The Fertility of an Idea It traces the lineage of optogenetics and argues that great science grows the way living things do, across time, people, instruments, branching and borrowing, and that this should shape how we build AI for science. I’m grateful to @dbeyer123, @madelynheart_ and @ElliotHershberg at Amplify for their time and support along the way, and a very big thank you to the inimitable @barsisyphus who edited the piece with lots of care.

1/ Introducing Flint. It’s a pretty good model for agentic coding locally. We @Recursive_SI think a lot of everyday coding will move to models running on your laptop or a server down the hall. Here’s why we built it.

Datology is one of the best (if not the best) data research labs. Their tech reports are packed with practical details and tricks for curating data properly across pre / post-training and evals. Some of my favorite resources and write ups from them: - DatBench: arxiv.org/abs/2601.02316 - DatSmith: datologyai.com/blog/datasmit… - Pretrain vs. CPT analysis: datologyai.com/blog/finetune… - UberWeb: arxiv.org/abs/2602.15210 - BeyondWeb: arxiv.org/abs/2508.10975 Really cool to see them packaging these learnings / best practices into a unified platform!

So many venture investors are used to the last decade of underwriting where the main risk was the ability to capture demand - find pmf, scale sales etc… For many of the new businesses being funded today demand is no longer the issue - if you can make low cost reliable ballistic missile interceptors or high bandwidth low cost memory then ya obviously you will have insane demand. The risk moves to supply - ‘can you actually make the thing’ - a question literally no one asked in the era of HRISs & Neobanks - feels like a lot of faces will get ripped off people pricing ‘demand’ for magic beans that will never be delivered.

Today, I’m excited to launch conspiracystudios.com, a creative agency for technology companies and investment firms. We build stories that turn skeptics into true believers and bring them to life through brands, websites, fundraising materials, content, and more. Why Conspiracy? Because every great endeavor starts off as a one: a small group of people that see something the rest of the world doesn’t (yet) and commit to making it real. The hard part is getting everyone else to see what you do. That’s where we come in. Conspiracy speaks the language of ambitious founders and investors — technology, AI, finance, markets — and fluidly translate those ideas into strategy, writing, design, and creative work that moves people to action. We do our best work at inflection points: a launch, raise, rebrand, repositioning, new market, or time where your old story no longer fits where you're going. Over the last three years, we’ve have the privilege of doing this work for technical startups, unicorns, Fortune 500 companies, and VC & PE firms — including @adapter, @fabrionai, @tipalti , @ActivantCapital , and many more. I‘m deeply grateful to the clients, collaborators, and friends have helped us get to this point: @SteveSarracino, @JuliusStener, @mccoype, @AdamGhetti, @InesBuSu, @teddyellison91, @singareddynm, @seanxthielen, @barsisyphus, and many more. 🧿🕯️Stay sneaky, stay cheeky. 🕯️🧿

[🚨 nerd alert] Sometimes you just gotta entertain yourself by building your own world model (and policy, and game env). In this project, the world model is the backbone of the policy head, but the policy head is also trained on the generations of the world model. It's a fun showcase of imagination training and memory-necessary gameplay, if I do say so myself. By memory-necessary, I mean the policy needs to remember previous observations to accomplish its task (e.g., being instructed to "turn right in 10 units" at time t_a requires remembering how many units you've driven thus far at time t_b). And it's also cool that the world model and policy share most of their weights! Keep a lookout for the accompanying article at the @AmplifyPartners blog! This'll be the sequel to "a brief history of learning in imagination" (check out my post on it in my profile if you're curious). Btw, you can play with this yourself! You can drive **in** the trained world model (i.e., city generated by the world model), and/or watch the policy drive automatically, all in my website. Or if you're basic (jk), you can also play in the real environment (it's always good to know the baseline). kota-wm repo: github.com/xyntechx/kota-wm my website: xyntechx.com/ [works best with webgpu] Creds: I took some code from minGPT @karpathy and IRIS @micheli_vincent @EloiAlonso1 @francoisfleuret @gen_intuition -- thank you to the authors! ✨ If you've made it this far, hi! I'll be at Runtime organized by @modal on Oct 1. If you're building in AI x games (including game-playing and game-making agents), DM me and let's meet up!

I'm sure he is, however, our social presence is 100% organic. Cloudflare marketing has never talked to me about social media. Nobody at Cloudflare has ever told me what to tweet nor reviewed any of my tweets before posting, at all. Nor HN posts. I'm sure @threepointone, @dillon_mulroy, @zebassembly, etc. would all say the same. And that's, I think, why it works. No marketing team could come up with a better campaign than just having all the engineers tweet freely about all the cool stuff they are doing. It's exactly as @barsisyphus said. I would say the perceived "resurgence" here just comes down to the AI revolution, the AI community centralizing on X as the place they talk about it, and the fact that Cloudflare is doing a lot in this space. But the overall culture of transparency has been there all along and comes straight from @eastdakota.

Friend of mine just received his MB&F raffle piece, the “jumping hour and dragging minutes” M.A.D.2 ! First of all, how cool is it to see a brand, a super duper high independent like MB&F make affordable watches with cool complications, effectively bringing a similar level of intrigue to watches (usually reserved for unobtainable “haute horlogerie”) that we can actually buy. And the watch.. it’s just so cool, having the jumping hour AND dragging minutes wheels is so unusual and sick, really not the complications you see everyday. My only issue is that the watch is a bit big, being 42mm and almost 13mm thick, otherwise, it’s such a cool piece of watchmaking, for what feels like a really good price. Another really cool thing about it is that the little dots rings around the dial were inspired by, what is probably the most significant record player of all times, the Technics sl 1200. AWESOME! (Also we should all appreciate the pics @5tancho took)
